Worrying escalation
Now the cup is full! For years we've been called everything: criminals, murderers, vandals, but in recent months we've witnessed a worrying and disgusting escalation of unmotivated hatred directed at us. While hatred might be considered "physiological and tolerable" when it comes from the usual keyboard haters, it's extremely serious, profoundly uncivilized, and antidemocratic when its perpetrators are the politicians who are supposed to guarantee equality and justice for all citizens. The low-level terrorist propaganda slogans that have filled interviews, the web, and debates were invented by those who have made the most short-sighted and fanatical animal rights movement their sole political argument.
The reference to the Government
While we can only thank the government and the entire majority for their political courage in addressing a completely unsustainable environmental and wildlife situation head-on, proposing a much-needed update to Law 157/92, we would also like to firmly emphasize that this is certainly not a radical overhaul and that expressions such as "shooters," "beach hunting," "use of night vision goggles," "increasing hunting times and huntable species," and "hunting during migration" are simply ridiculous and shameless fake news that have no basis whatsoever in the text of the bill approved by the Senate and currently under discussion in the Chamber of Deputies. And the most tragic and incredible thing is that those who freely and shamelessly use them are not just "keyboard jackals," but also prominent politicians from whom one would legitimately expect a different tone and different truth!
Use of night vision goggles
To give one example, for the benefit of the self-righteous and those unaware of the reality, the use of night vision goggles is not permitted for normal hunting but only for wildlife control of problematic species, and is recommended and advised by ISPRA itself to ensure not only maximum safety but also to facilitate quick and painless culling. To give another example, one of the things that sparked outrage and alarm, and perhaps partly justified the term "shooter," was the proposal to include the rock pigeon among the huntable species. It almost caused a popular revolt, as if it were a question of making storks or eagles huntable. Well, just to clarify, let's remember that a few months ago the bureaucrats and politicians at the helm of the Emilia-Romagna Region decided to erase the wood pigeon species from the countryside, authorising the killing of these animals not only during migration but even during the peak period of reproduction and parental care, that is from April to September, when hunting has always been strictly closed.
Barbaric intervention
Faced with such barbaric and criminal political intervention, only Libera Caccia dared to appeal, first to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) and then to the Council of State. None of the more than fifty associations now outraged by the request to open hunting for rock pigeons raised their voices of indignation and protest. To be fair, the only one to condemn it was ENPA, but only after we hunters took action. In recent days, we have witnessed the television complaints of the president of LIPU, who, in heartfelt and dramatic tones, denounced hunting in January, declaring that migration begins in the first few days of the month and that allowing hunting is uncivilized. How strange that when Emilia-Romagna decided to starve chicks in the nest, the president had no objection; who knows, perhaps he hadn't been informed!
Animal rights ideology
This episode, which surely escaped the notice of Members of Parliament Bonelli, Fratoianni, Conte, Brambilla, and even Democratic Party Secretary Schlein, clearly demonstrates how a purely technical and scientific discussion has been inexorably tainted and poisoned by the most fundamentalist animalist ideology and by a political system that is doing everything it can to undermine a democratic debate on updating a law that is now over thirty years old and fails to take into account a profoundly different wildlife situation, with populations of some species—often non-native and harmful to biodiversity—now completely out of control. This updated law has the sole flaw of adding the word "wildlife management" to the word "protection" in its title. This management is being implemented worldwide without the ridiculous charades so beloved by our animal rights activists, who continue to spew out baseless fake news.
