ANUU Migrators on the ornithological observations and the importance of collaborators for scientific interest.
Those who work in the capture centers for presicci, authorized by the provincial administrations, know very well the species that transit during the migratory period. In addition to the catches of individuals belonging to species huntable, the conductors keep annotated in their diaries the ornithological observations that take place every day. At the end of the year, by going to dust off the diaries, we discover interesting anecdotes about the migratory life of our winged friends. Therefore, the writing becomes an important testimony, thanks to those who, with the pen, stop time and behavior on paper, so as to make them interesting even on a scientific level. The diaries are not only words handed down, but important data that are analyzed, year after year, and belong to the same structure and to the same territory. To this is added the comparison with other territorial monitoring realities and thus an initial examination of the migratory situation in a given period in our territory can be drawn up.
The recaptures of subjects with tarsal rings applied during the scientific ringing activity carried out by about five hundred Italian ringers authorized by ISPRA and by foreign ringers around the world who work as researchers every year are underlined. The simple ring is an identity card that accompanies the specimen and, by reading the serial number, you can access a wealth of interesting information concerning the life of the animal and which are important for those who study migration and conservation. of the species.
In this regard, I would like to point out the recaptures that took place at the presicci capture center in Giussano (MB) conducted very well by Messrs. Villa and Brivio who, in December 2014, during their activity, found in the nets two subjects bearing a metal ring at the tarsus. The first was a male of Chaffinch, taken on 21 December 2014 and previously ringed at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory of Arosio on 17 October of the same year, and a female of Blackbird, taken on 23 December and previously ringed, also at the Observatory FEIN Ornithology, on 22 October 2014.
The described fact does not represent anything exceptional but it is still important if it must be considered that these data, then communicated to ISPRA, go to implement the studies on the migratory movements of birds. What is important to underline is how the widespread network of passionate people who work in the field collaborate in scientific research, and the work of the conductors of the Giussano capture center for presicci is an example of this. This is certainly a very valid example to urge all those who have not yet started to try to try.
