The fifteenth year of study of the Breeding Project at the Ornithological Observatory of Arosio has begun, the research for the monitoring of breeding species.
Friday 11 May 2012 at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory / European Foundation The Arosio Kite began the 15th year of study of the Breeding Project, a research aimed at monitoring the various nesting species on site.
The search takes place, as usual, in a standardized way with an opening of 110 m. of network type mist-nets for each monthly decade, without the use of acoustic prompts and enticements. The project will cover a period of 9 days divided into the months of May, June and July.
Last year, through the ringing technique, 14 species were analyzed, such as Great Spotted Woodpecker, Great Tit, Blackbird, Long-tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Flycatcher, Black Redstart, Green Woodpecker, Blackcap, Robin, Jay, Black Bail, Kestrel and Chaffinch , while in 2010 10 species were analyzed.
The analyzed species represented 8 ornithic families, such as Paridae, Turdidae, Picidae, Muscicapidae, Silvidae, Corvidae, Falconidae and Fringillidae. The most represented family was that of the Paridae, present with 3 different species, recording a number of 18 specimens analyzed.
It is curious to underline how the study session has already opened with the recapturing of a male of Black Redstart, ringed on July 17, 2011. A fact that, with different species, is repeated every year and which underlines how the natural site of the Observatory is the place suitable for birds to return to reproduce in the course of their life.
