Positions taken
We can't take it anymore. But is it possible that despite the numerous positions taken to date by the hunting community against the instrumental use of appeals to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR), adopted by animal rights activists solely to oppose hunting, almost exclusively without any real technical or legal justification, and despite the amendments made to Law 157/92 precisely to try to correct the situation, everything continues as if nothing had happened? We are referring, of course, to the recent suspensions granted by the Regional Administrative Courts in Piedmont and Sicily (while we await word in these hours regarding the appeal filed in Lombardy, particularly regarding the lapwing and the supplementary hunting days), which have cancelled the scheduled early openings. The case of the early openings also being denied to the wood pigeon species is downright incredible.
Absurd control plans
While absurd wood pigeon control plans are authorized in Emilia and Sicily, allowing their slaughter even during breeding season (something the ANUUMigratoristi had once strongly contested), without any animal rights organization intervening and with the approval of ISPRA, when it comes to allowing preliminary openings for the same species, negative opinions and suspension orders are mysteriously issued based on precautionary principles and the alleged risks to the future of these poor wood pigeons. The flawed nature of a system that appears to function only to hinder hunting and hunters, even when all national and EU regulations on the matter are complied with, is clearly evident. It's truly time to put an end to this!
The necessary measures
We reiterate that further urgent legislative measures are needed, requiring environmental associations to pay for appeals to the Regional Administrative Courts (TAR), requiring TAR judges to address these appeals immediately, without granting any preventive suspension, and requiring appellants to receive adequate compensation for those unjustly harmed by suspensions that were subsequently not upheld by the lower court rulings. For these reasons, ANUUMigratoristi will propose to the National Steering Committee of Hunting Associations to intervene again with a unified document to be addressed to the Government and to the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, similarly to what was recently done to counter all the animal rights fake news circulating regarding the ongoing discussion on amending Law No. 157/92 (source: ANUU).
