Aquatic hunt: This is a hunt that not everyone has tried that of the aquatic ones, but which gives satisfactions and strong emotions, especially if carried out with attention to detail, precision and patience.
When it comes to this kind of hunting there are three fundamental elements: the aquatic, the hunter and the water. If due to the presence of the former you can do very little, for the preparation of the hunter and the pond man has ample room for movement: on the other hand, if his skills are poor and the environment in which he works is approximate, there will really be little chance the hunt will be lucky.
And today we are talking about the hunting environment and the possibility of artificially building a five-star lake for hunting purposes, yes, but also for the repopulation of some areas.
To begin with, it is good to remember that to create a successful stakeout it is essential to have a clear idea of the birdlife present in the area, and which one intends to recall: this is an important element since techniques change according to the bird. On the other hand, the possibilities are really numerous: between diving ducks, surface ducks and waders, the choice is really wide.
Before even thinking about the possibility of creating a small or large artificial lake, it is good to investigate migration routes. If they do not pass by in the area, change your project: creating a pond without birds would be totally useless.
Having solved the first point, remember: one of the elements that you will have to keep under control is the depth of the pond around which you intend to post: for hunting tufted duck or pochard, diving ducks, it is good that the depth is around 2-3 meters , while if you have the idea of hunting mallard, pintail, gargane, shoveler, gadwall or teal the depth must be much less. The same rule is also valid for hunting snipe, gurnard or water rail.
Another element that should not be underestimated is that of size: 7 thousand, 8 thousand square meters is an acceptable surface, although, in this case, the logic of the bigger the better is valid. Think about how many and what spaces you have available before taking action.
Another detail to consider is that relating to the banks: all aquatic species prefer the slope to be gradual and reduced, so that the habitat simulates a marshy environment to perfection. It will be precisely in the banks that the game will carry out every food activity, exploring the damp earth with its beak in search of some delicious meal, at least in the case of waders, ducks and snipe.
At this point the pond is ready and all you have to do is wait for it to populate with aquatic vegetation: it is usually a rather rapid phase, but if things do not go as expected, you could take care of the transplantation of the classic aquatic species present. in the area. The population by the fauna will be gradual and probably natural: it should be borne in mind that during this phase it will be probable that huntable species will appear, but also many protected species, which will choose the area to nest.
Obviously, during the project implementation phase it is good to keep in mind what your stalking points will be: better to choose positions with the sun behind you and in line of entry with the birds, right?
The hut for the posting, well inserted in the habitat, will have to make the shooting easier, it will be better sheltered from the winds, insulated and needless to say waterproof. Winter hunting otherwise could be quite difficult.
