Piergiorgio Fassini, vice president ofArci Caccia del Veneto, turned to the Region to clarify the extension of the ban on hunting activities in some areas. Here is the text of the letter: "We consider the extension of a further week of the hunting ban in the entire Province of Belluno and in the Alps area falling within the Province of Vicenza. The measure adopted, despite the complexity of the emergency situation that has arisen in some areas of the Veneto region, it appears too generic rather than from the careful analysis of the local situations in place.
We can agree that in the areas most affected by bad weather we can keep the temporary ban on hunting, closure necessary to guarantee the protection of wildlife, but also for the safety of all citizens and therefore the ban should be extended to visitors to the woods and valleys (mushroom hunters, hikers, etc.). But we believe that if only the hunting ban is to be mentioned, this must be implemented only in the territories where the situation is actually an emergency for the fauna and the environment. There are entire territories in which there is no risk either for the environment or for the fauna, yet the hunt remains closed.
We therefore ask that, if the hunting ban should be extended, it should be done for areas actually affected by the meteorological phenomena of recent days and therefore for clearly identifiable areas falling within Alpine Reserves or portions of them. We therefore ask that the Region, in collaboration with the hunting offices of the Provinces and the directors of the Alpine areas, remove and abolish the generalized hunting ban for the areas of the Alpi Zone not affected by the environmental disaster of these days, and that as of tomorrow we will return to these areas as well practicing hunting normally as is already the case in the rest of Veneto. We understand that in a complex moment like this, for the institutions, hunting legitimately takes a back seat, but we cannot accept for the hunters we represent that this could be a serious and unjustified limitation in the exercise of their rights ".
