Arci Caccia Umbria, the suppression of the Provincial Police does not satisfy us and the interests of the country.
With regard to the approval by the Government of Law Decree No. 78 of 19 June 2015, the regional President of the Arci Caccia dell'Umbria, Emanuele Bennati, issued the following statement: "We express deep concern about the choice made with the Government Decree Law to allocate the Provincial Police personnel to the Municipal Police Corps, effectively eliminating the historic figure of the Guard Hunting and Fishing ". Who will fight against environmental crimes, who will prosecute poachers, which affect not only huntable species but, even more often, protected and particularly protected species? The Provincial Police carried out checks on very delicate matters, including: waste disposal, soil protection, protection of air quality, noise and water pollution. Together with the State Forestry Corps, it has acquired a particular professionalism and specialization in subjects, like few other police bodies.
At a time when the protection of the environment and biodiversity are now at the center of the widespread interests of Italian citizens and beyond, while Parliament has finally produced a good law to combat eco-crimes, now that the rules are in place by contrast, a history and a role of a police force that perhaps needed to be restructured, but certainly not dismantled, is canceled. The beautiful Italian "countryside" are at risk of security because the "police forces" that have rural specializations are no longer there.
We hope that the Parliament, in the conversion phase, will define with certainty the matters of competence and the field of action of the Local Police and of the Voluntary Hunting, Fish and Environmental Guards who until yesterday were nominated by the Provinces, choosing, perhaps, to have them coordinated by an Environmental Police Corps employed by the Umbria Region. The protection of the landscape, fauna, water and all those environmental assets that represent an inestimable resource for the citizens of today and of the future cannot be the result of improvisation.
