"Management of ungulates in Umbria: problems, perspectives and objectives". This is the official title of the meeting promoted by Regional Committee of Umbria of ArciCaccia to talk about wild boar, roe deer and deer and scheduled in two days, Sunday March 6 2016, in the Sala Quaranta of Norcia (province of Perugia). What exactly will we talk about? As explained by the same association, fallow deer, mouflons and Apennine chamois are hosted in the Umbrian territory in well-established populations, but we must not forget the growth of wild ungulates. A similar presence has forced an important reflection on what are the new strategies for the correct management, use and enhancement of natural resources.
The goal is to safeguard precious assets for Umbria, such as agriculture, biodiversity and the natural landscape. The debate will be preceded by greetings from Nicholas Alemanno, mayor of Norcia, and of Stephen Alemanno, representative of ArciCaccia-Territorial Area of Hunting Perugia 2. The introduction will instead be entrusted to the number one of ArciCaccia Umbria, Emmanuel Bennati. The interventions will be different and will involve personalities such as Giuliano Sorbaioli (Urca Umbria), Gianluca Rubeca (responsible for ungulates on behalf of ArciCaccia Terni), Silvano Toso (Ungulate Data Bank), Gianluca Dall'Olio (national president of the Italian Federation of Hunting).
In particular, Bernardino Ragni, professor of Environmental Zoology and Fauna Management at the University of Perugia, will deal with an important topic such as that of wild ungulates and their role as an important axis for what concerns the Wildlife economy. In addition, there will be a reference to the Man, Nature and Environment Foundation and its importance which will be underlined and deepened by Maurice Zipponi, president of the Scientific Committee of UNA.
The program will then end with Osvaldo Venetian, national president of FederCaccia, a fundamental presence in such a conference. In the region of central Italy, ungulates are often discussed and the time has finally come transform the problem into a renewable and compatible resource. This challenge of the hunting world is considered strategic, also because it is no longer possible to ignore it after the increase in damage to the agricultural sector, road accidents, with higher costs borne by the Region, the Territorial Areas of Hunting and therefore by the citizens.
ArciCaccia Umbria wanted to organize the day of debates precisely for make available all the ideas and all the experiences that have been gained, listening to the voice of the technical part to share it with the productive categories who are most involved in this case. The new management must be something concrete and not just a promise.
