Health at risk
The opposition to the Italian law that prohibits the cultivation and marketing of cell-based foods produced in the laboratory goes against the health of citizens, science and the precautionary principle. This is what Coldiretti states in reference to the presentation of a parliamentary question on the subject by individual representatives of some parties. It is a clear attack by a handful of oligarchs on the Italian agri-food sector and beyond, with the intent of evident financial speculation and food standardization. An attack on a law supported by two million signatures and by a cross-party front that includes representatives of all political parties, the governors of the Regions, over three thousand mayors.
Common heritage
For Coldiretti, an improvement in European legislation is needed to guarantee the precautionary principle and the protection of citizens' health, which should be considered a common heritage by all parties. At risk is a supply chain, the agri-food one, worth 620 billion euros with 4 million employees, which Coldiretti intends to defend at all costs. Coldiretti will not let pass the attempts of those who are moving their men in Parliament to realize their plan to get their hands on Made in Italy food. A plot that will see the firm and decisive barrier of free science and broad popular support, as demonstrated by the broad consensus found by the Coldiretti petition from which the national law then arose. In addition to citizens and associations, those who joined the collection of signatures included, among others, the Prime Minister and leader of Fratelli d'Italia Giorgia Meloni, the President of the Democratic Party Stefano Bonaccini, the Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani of Forza Italia, the Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini of the League, the leader of Azione Carlo Calenda, the political leader of Noi Moderati Maurizio Lupi, the group leader of the 5 Star Movement in the Senate Stefano Patuanelli but also many parliamentarians such as Luca Pastorino of +Europa or Elena Bonetti of Italia Viva.
The signatories of the petition
Among the signatories of the petition promoted by Coldiretti are also the presidents of the Regions of Basilicata (Vito Bardi) Calabria (Roberto Occhiuto), Campania (Vincenzo De Luca), Emilia Romagna (Stefano Bonaccini), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (Massimiliano Fedriga), Lombardy (Attilio Fontana), Marche (Francesco Acquaroli), Molise (Donato Toma), Piedmont (Alberto Cirio), Puglia (Michele Emiliano), Sardinia (Christian Solinas), Sicily (Renato Schifani), Tuscany (Eugenio Giani), Umbria (Tesei Donatella), Veneto (Luca Zaia) and the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento (Maurizio Fugatti). And among the mayors – notes Coldiretti – those who signed, among others, are those of Florence, Bari, Naples, Venice, Verona, Aosta, Ancona, Catanzaro, Cagliari and Perugia. A deployment that strengthens Coldiretti's will to oppose this bloodbath carried out by "magnates" or self-styled philanthropists in order to create contexts for an evident destabilization of the European agri-food markets, driven by a ravenous search for financial speculation (source: Coldiretti).
