La Lonato del Garda Fair (province of Brescia) has reached its 58th year of life: from 15 to 17 January 2016 the event that is inspired by the agricultural tradition and the anniversary of Sant'Antonio Abate will be dominated by a series of events, among which an interesting conference focused on hunting. For tomorrow, Friday 15 January 2016, in fact, the debate entitled “The hunting management of Lower Garda: improvement strategies ". This is an interesting opportunity to study the subject in depth, given that Christian Simonetti, municipal councilor in charge of hunting and fishing, Luigino Cassini, president of Federcaccia Lonato del Garda, Oscar Lombardi, number one of the Brescia Single Hunting Territorial Area, will participate, and Ambrogio Lanzi, wildlife technician on behalf of ATC (Studio Geco).
The appointment is scheduled at 20 pm at the Town Hall. What will we talk about specifically? The opening of the hunting season was not positive in the province of Brescia. In particular, the heat that characterized the beginning of autumn gave little satisfaction to hunters, while the hare hunt got off to a much better start. In addition to the muted debut, we must also take into account the too advanced crops that did not facilitate the hunting season.
For example, the corn was already cut and the countryside was rather desolate. Federcaccia has repeatedly reiterated how this way of cultivating the land has penalized the hunters of the Lower Garda, without forgetting the intensive use of herbicides which compromises the environment. One of the main concerns of Brescia hunters was that of one reduction of the hunting calendar, in particular with regard to Cesena. The deadline, however, was confirmed on January 31, an issue that is causing a lot of discussion in various regions of Italy.
One of the most interesting data provided by the Brescia Unico Hunting Territorial Area is that relating to the harvesting of hare. Last November 23 was the last day allowed for this hunt: they were registered 1122 common hare withdrawals out of the nearly 3700 planned, consequently the 80% target set by the plan authorized by the Province of Brescia was not reached. The promising start was not accompanied by similarly positive months.
It is no coincidence, therefore, that tomorrow's debate is focused on improvement strategies, proposals and suggestions will be made and reference will certainly be made to the 2016-2017 hunting season: however, we must not forget that there is a last date left for what concerns catches of the 2015-2016 season, namely that of Sunday 17 January in Calvisano (Brescia).
