Management of wildlife heritage
The practice of capturing hares in prohibited areas is essential for the correct management of wildlife and for the repopulation of territories. Not participating, especially if you practice this type of hunting, is a serious shortcoming and the result of irresponsible disinterest. We have written it several times, hare captures are first of all a party and the best way to feel part of the ATC. However, we should all ask ourselves, once and for all starting from the ATC leaders, the reasons that continue to prevent catches from taking off in numbers. The desire to want to capture every year without noticing, apart from a few exceptions, the hare populations is right. From a technical point of view, is it the correct choice? Will we see catches of just a few specimens again this year? Is proper surveillance carried out? Are the relationships with the owners and managers of the funds influenced by the increase in hares? Are environmental improvement policies implemented in the best possible way?
Increased density
The questions are legitimate if this year the numbers will be the same as in recent years. Perhaps, and we are not sure we have the correct idea, it would be appropriate to suspend captures and try to increase the densities of hare populations in order to reach the numbers in Mantua, often close to 70 hares per square kilometre. In this way, taking a certain quantity would not affect the population as it seems to be happening today. These are all suppositions which, however, are right to ask given that nothing has changed in the practical results of captures for 10 years. And the lack of a wildlife technician in ATC certainly does not help. The Sector's secretariat then communicates that interested parties will have to go to the meeting points equipped with the ATC badge. Updates with times and meeting points for subsequent catches will follow on the ATC Unico website of Brescia (source: Fidc Brescia).
