Second edition
The appointment with the Family Trophy, the initiative that Fidasc Calabria has included since last year in its calendar of sporting/supportive events after a first experience of approach in 2022. It is now a heartfelt and participated event which attracts many athletes of the Fidasc ball shooting and not only of this discipline. Together with their families they enliven a magnificent day of sport and solidarity. This year the Trophy was set for Sunday 16 June and 34 couples, made up of at least one Fidasc athlete and a member of their family unit, responded to the invitation of the regional President Francesco Citriniti and the staff of the host Polygon for a collection funds in favor of the Orientaventi Association.
A big heart
Not just sport, therefore, but also a helping hand towards those in need. Thus continues the path of solidarity undertaken by Fidasc Calabria and, after the recent fundraising for the Cicala family home, this special competition continued, the entire proceeds of which were donated to the Orientaventi Association to support the charitable project that the same carries out annually, was conceived by Citriniti and the Regional Council and, right from the start, was supported by the management of the Poligono MS The family with its values and ideals, as a starting point to demonstrate the joy of being together; the family, the pivot of society: "the foundation of coexistence and the guarantee against social disintegration", as Pope Francis quotes, to bring sharing into play even in competition, but above all to demonstrate that, with the strength of love, many small families can gather together and form, ideally, an even larger, united and cohesive family that can and knows how to lend a hand to those who are less fortunate and need help.
Professional athletes to say the least
The Tournament foresees, as mentioned, that couples of athletes made up of husband and wife, father son, mother daughter, brother sister, etc. will take to the stage. in which at least one of the two family members is a Fidasc member in possession of a regular firearms licence. Last Sunday on the pitch the professionalism of the athletes and the enthusiastic approach to the discipline on the part of their families were the protagonists: many of them were trying their hand at it for the first time. Guided and supported with the utmost respect for safety, they contributed to the success of this Sunday in the name of solidarity and love towards others. The entire proceeds of the competition, equal to 1000 euros, coming from registrations but also from the proceeds of the compressed air rifle competitions and charity fishing which were carried out at the same time, through the Orientaventi Onlus Association, will reach this year Italian association of friends of Neve Shalom which supports the village of the same name located in Israel. In this village, Jews and Palestinians, all Israeli citizens, live together in fairness and justice. The project that will be supported is called “School for Peace”.
A large-scale change
The School for Peace (SFP) in Neve Shalom was founded in 1979 as the first educational institution in Israel to promote large-scale change towards peace and more humane, egalitarian and just relations between Palestinians and Jews. SFP works with professional groups, Jewish and Palestinian women and youth, creating a genuine egalitarian dialogue between the two peoples. Through workshops, training programs and special projects it develops participants' awareness of the conflict and their role in it, enabling them to take responsibility for changing current relations between Jews and Palestinians. Fidasc Calabria and its athletes, once again united in solidarity but also witnesses that weapons, if considered and used as "sports equipment", not only are not a danger but in the right hands, like any other sporting activity, they can help and not harm. The day of solidarity began with a slight delay due to an unexpected event at the shooting range, which was promptly resolved and continued until around 14.00 pm.
Tribute to all participants
The speech of the Vice President of the Orientaventi Onlus Association, Bisignano headquarters, Maria Teresa Sita, was moving. She thanked first of all all the families who made themselves available to participate in the initiative, underlining the importance of the family: "The values and the virtues of the family, the strengths on which the family unit rests - he said - cannot be questioned"... "We are called to review our lifestyle... individualistic, consumerist and always find the main road again , to live by proposing greatness and beauty, the joy of being and being a family". Finally, Vice President Sita honored all the participants with a small boat, symbol of the Orientaventi Association, made in their solidarity workshop: "every boat is built not to stay in the port but to sail" she said "just as every family is born to walk in life". At the end of the race, the Regional President Citriniti extended a warm thank you to all the Fidasc athletes who participated and in particular, with pride, expressed gratitude to them because, once again, they demonstrated great sportsmanship and good heart. Finally, a separate space must be dedicated to the sponsors of the event, essential and essential elements for the excellent success of last Sunday's fundraising. As many as 20 companies from the national territory offered their products, allowing not only to reward the participating couples up to the 15th position in the ranking, but also to welcome the athletes to the range with a tasty sweet, to reward the podium of the compressed air competition, to guarantee the charity fishing prize, to organize a very nice (and very welcome) Nutella party, to listen to good music and to sing and joke together.
A plaque of merit
Citriniti's final thanks were therefore extended to all those who allowed the Family Trophy to be put in place: the managers of the Poligono MS, Marino and Scorza, and their entire staff, the National President Felice Buglione and Fidasc, the regional council which supported the event by taking care of the prizes for the athletes, the sponsors Bricodero Show Room, GTS, Tenuta Iuzzolini, Goloserie, Armeria Pilò, Hotel Guglielmo, Hotel San Francesco Terme, Market Franco Adamo, ERA, Vitaliano Cannistrà , Caffè Guglielmo, Minicelli Premiazioni, Traslochi Fulciniti, Patrick Frangella, Ditta Chiarella Giuseppe, GP Porte, Bagnato Arredo Tessile, Autieri Gioiellerie, Maremmano and Caffè del Viale who honored the athletes with their products. The competition judges Raffaele Fontanella, Gaetano Perri and Francesco Rocco Neri who offered their presence and professionalism free of charge. As always, the products offered in the refreshment area managed by the staff of the Macelleria Sposato in Spezzano Albanese are excellent. And to round off the already magnificent day, a final surprise: the delivery of a plaque of merit to one of the Fidasc families chosen among the others for their supportive and impeccable lifestyle. This year the prize was awarded to the Arggiatoso family, Angela and Antonio, to whom the virtual embrace of all the Calabrian athletes goes (source: FIDASC).
