Benelli Raffaello 20 slug: The 20 gauge has always represented a courageous choice by rifle manufacturers.
Il Raffaello 20 gauge, with a modern design and high technological standards, represents the challenge launched to those who wish to try and use the small caliber. Its target is the boarDespite the skepticism that hovers around 20-gauge shotguns, Benelli wanted to bet in this segment of hunting weapons. In fact, the 20 range represents a courageous choice of field towards the small caliber.
This choice could be considered as an appeal to renewal, which cannot but be viewed with curiosity. In fact, all the companies producing hunting weapons direct their efforts to offer on the market products that can meet the changing needs of hunters, who for their part constantly ask for specific specializations of their weapon. In order to keep up with the times, Benelli offers a series of semiautomatic very specific and technically advanced, which deviate from the standardized product, offering significant elements of distinction to those who use its rifles.
Having said that, the Urbino-based manufacturer presents the 20-gauge Benelli on the market. It is a low weight, very handy and pleasantly proportioned rifle. To these characteristics Benelli has added the high technological standard, using materials and carrying out processes and tolerances which ensure new performance compared to competing products on the market. Benelli's wager to instill a taste for sporting challenge, that is to try hunting with the less easy caliber, with lighter fillers and less generous grouping diameters, requires considerable courage. Someone said: "In life, in addition to desire, you also need courage". This quote well represents Benelli's idea and style. In the 20-gauge Benelli range, already officially presented at Iwa 2007, the Raffaello Slug represents one of the major attractions for Italian hunters and beyond.
The aesthetics of the weapon, compact, proportionate, complete in the set-up and aggressive in the look, further participates in the success of the Raffaello. Even the name, synonymous with refinement and elegance, was not chosen at home. The Raffaello Slug 20 casing has been specifically sized for the 20 gauge. Compared to a 12 gauge model, one notices, only after a careful visual examination, the dimensional variation: the maintenance of the proportions has been so accurate that it takes a lot of attention. expert to have the exact vision of the volumetric reduction that interested you. The technicians of the Benelli design department say that it would be wrong to believe that the 20-gauge models are only the result of a variation in dimensions and thicknesses. The design of each shotgun is entirely independent, and all the kinetics, tolerances, spring load and every single component are recalculated according to the 20 gauge.
The tried and tested Benelli system has been used for the kinetic part of the Raffaello Slug 20, which includes a rotating head shutter, for minimum maintenance of the same. The shutters are processed and assembled entirely by robotic machines, obtaining even smaller tolerances than in the past. By following the processing cycle starting from the monolithic piece up to the finished carcass, accompanied by the company brands, it is possible to appreciate the constructive accuracy and the precision of the details.
The trigger pack is removable, with the visible cocked hammer indicator, which is also the cut-off button, with crossbar safety on the rear side of the jumper.
The visual approach with the Raffaello is aggressive, as it expresses the same power that can be found in semi-automatic rifles and shotguns intended for hunting with a shot. The very straight stock with an ambidextrous cheek piece from the squared Monte Carlo participates in this approach. The Raffaello caliber 20 has an innovative look, combined with a real effectiveness in the field, characteristics that represent an interesting alternative among the weapons intended for driven hunts, a segment that in Italy has as its object only the wild boar, while in Spain, Portugal and France is also intended for red deer, fallow deer and roe deer.
Il Raffaello 20 gauge Slug it has a matt black anodized Ergal casing, prepared with holes for mounting a slide to accommodate an optic. The cylindrical barrel is 560 mm long and is obtained through the well-known cryogenic treatment that Benelli reserves for its products, i.e. the progressive cooling down to -125 ° C: the steel thus treated does not experience thermal expansion, and those deriving from pressure remain constant and contained. The ballistic performance of the barrel is therefore constant since the vibrations and expansions are uniform at the moment of the shot. The rear sight of the Raffaello 20 gauge Slug is of two types: both adjustable in height and windage, with green optic fiber, and with a ramp with high visibility line of sight specific for the stop. The viewfinder is adjustable with embedded red optical fiber. The stock is in walnut chosen with an anatomically designed butt pad with a gel interior, while the fore-end is gently tapered to offer immediate and easy handling. The speargun has a weight of 2.700 grams and is remarkably balanced: the harness, in fact, is fast, allowing you to find an immediate correct position with the weight well distributed; alignment is instinctive too, with both aiming systems.
In addition to handling, the advantage of a 20 gauge is that it senses significantly less than a 12 gauge, as you are able to effortlessly maintain alignment in the rapid firing sequence. Tested Fiocchi Nova Slug 20/70 cartridges with Original Brenneke bullet and the Sauvestre Magnum 20/76, it is noted that the former are very effective on average distances of 35 and 50 meters, while for shots at 100 meters, the greater power and Linearity of the Magnums, which have four stabilizing fins, is decisive: the Brenneke slightly lose the linear trajectory, while the Sauvestre arrive straight into the target. On the shoulder the 20-gauge Raffaello "weighs" little, even if it is to be noted that the magnums hit a little, since the weapon recoils linearly and the return to the target after the shot is instantaneous. The ejection of the cartridges is always very energetic, and the rearmament is without hesitation. This semi-automatic is intended for fast ball shooting, an area for which the Benelli Raffaello Slug 20 does not disappoint, indeed.
Shooting "hunting" freehand and emptying the three shots in a quick sequence, at 30, 50 and even 100 meters, you always reach the target with concentrations that in hunting are to be considered more than flattering. The firearm is beautiful and easy to use, as it exudes an aura of lightning-fast confidence with the shooter.
The Benelli Raffaello Slug 20 will convince wild boar fans. The bet is already won.
