If it says semi-auto Benelli and the Ethos and the Montefeltro come to mind, just to mention two of the epigones of the Urbino production, then the top model, the Super Black Eagle now in its third edition. We had the opportunity to carefully observe it at the HIT exhibition in Vicenza and, before that, to try it on the field during a hunting trip in La Stoppa, AFV of Montefeltro. In truth, we too were part of the large group of fans for whom the supermagnum was something more than traditional needs: a rifle designed for geese and turkeys, therefore with its main destination in North America, the United States and Canada in particular, where in fact the giant of Benelli marks a conspicuous mark in sales and employment. Here with us, or in many European areas where waterfowl are undermined, you go with peace of mind on the traditional magnum, therefore with 12/76 chambers, you pay what the modern, amazing loads on average allow: ballistics understood as the capacity of the shotgun combination and cartridge to send long-range shot patterns capable of stopping the game sometimes makes a premium on the shooter's ability to calculate the right advance.
All projects Benelli they asked themselves a question: the customer buys the magnum because it is now a traditional classic, it does not need a high mass thanks to the semiautomatism that largely dissipates the recoil sensation and, even more, thanks to the sophisticated systems designed in the company precisely to further relieve the hunter from this annoyance. The set that goes under the name of Comfort Tech it includes the collapsible stock, the comb and the recoil pad in material created specifically to absorb energy and vibrations, and the recoil pad with directional feedback to improve these sensations, even in small details.
Strengthened by this starting point, it was decided to offer the Super Black Eagle in this version No. 3 with the characteristics suitable for wide-ranging use, alongside the well-known 12/76 chambered models this 12/89 which hardly differs in what remains the unavoidable entity (physics has its rules), but which in Benelli proved to be circumventable: weight. By filing in some details, strengthening others with sophisticated materials and technical innovations, it is obvious how in 3200 g a rifle is available that can compete on every hunting sector: this is the magic that is perceived already at a first contact. when you play a weapon in your hands that does not make you regret other products with a couple of hectograms less because the balance is optimal and also the barrel length, chosen between 26 "and 28" depending on the cartridge and therefore the use, does not create any impediment; chokes are available, also suitable for steel shot.
In the test carried out at La Stoppa on robust-sized pheasants and excellent flyers, we first checked the handling, the ease of carrying and aiming, using alternatively 70 and 76 mm cartridges; in a second time, giving the game a lot of space after fledging, we could see how the useful range of the cartridges Baschieri & Pellagri Extra Magnum 63 is truly exceptional allowing clean felling at distances totally unusual for us. Together with all this the feeling of the recoil is very acceptable so the combination of weight and technology works: the Super Black Eagle 3 it can certainly represent the all-rounder shotgun and not just the specialist for an extreme sector.
