Beretta 690 Field III: A year has now passed since the presentation of the over-under Beretta 690 Field III, a firearm destined to represent the starting point for the new industrial hunting quality over-under. In this shotgun, which required over 3.000 hours of design, there are technological innovations of great depth that make it the real compromise between the prestigious shotgun and the industrial one.

The mechanics are the same as the skeet rifle 692, from which he “stole” the receiver, batteries, cross and many small details. This "theft" is the guarantee of a test that only a firearm destined for the platform, firing in some cases even more than 30.000 cartridges / year, can decree. The 690 platform is destined to replace the Silver Pigeon series, therefore the range will be increased with smaller calibers and with increasingly refined versions. The shotgun we tested immediately strikes us for its shapes, elegant, well finished, with quality woods and accurate casings, it is immediately manageable and ready on target, both during the tests on the platform and during the real hunt.
The slender and elegant action frame, in steel with a sober rolled engraving depicting hunting scenes and double poppetta, typical of luxury shotguns, represents the soul of the shotgun. Here is the selective single trigger that acts on internal Anson-type batteries, the closure is the classic one with the two conical pins for constant play recovery and a closure that is always perfect.
The barrels, assembled in monoblok, are in Steelium tri-alloy steel with deep drilling, cold hammering and vacuum stretching: these characteristics contribute to reduced recoil and minimal fletching, as well as ensuring excellent shot patterns with excellent penetration on the target. All barrels have the latest generation Optimabore HP chokes, perfect for both lead and steel shots. Although the extractors are automatic, as befits a modern shotgun, they can be transformed into manuals, simply by turning a screw, a very welcome solution for those who do not have particular reloading needs and prefer to manually extract the shells without running the risk. to disperse them in the environment. The safety is positioned in the classic position behind the opening key and acts on the triggers, inside the safety button there is the selector to choose which of the two barrels should fire first.
As the fabric is to a dress, so is the wood to a gun. The quality of this detail, especially for a hunting rifle, is significant of the level at which the weapon is set: for the 690 Field III we have chosen to select fine grade 2+ walnut woods, finished in oil. Stock and fore-end are perfectly harmonized with the steel of the action frame and the glossy black of the Steelium barrels.

The 690 Field III over and under, thanks to the new design of the barrels and the cross, is light and well balanced: about 3,35 kg for the version with 71 cm barrels. Designed to meet the needs of the most demanding hunters, it offers a wide range of configurations; it is in fact available with 66, 71 and 76 cm barrels, stock with 35/55 or 38/60 drop, in right or left version, all this combined with the set of 5 Optimachoke HP chokes, which makes it suitable for any type of hunting , from the plains to the mountains.
