The main differences of the Beretta 692 Black, in all its versions, compared to the equivalent standard model are, in rib, which in this case was made in carbon, this allows a considerable weight saving with great advantages in the swinging phase of the weapon. Extremely light and resistant, the new upper rib ensures perfect linearity even in the most extreme shooting conditions, thanks to the new fastening system without welding. Thanks to B-Fast system for balancing the barrels, the weight of the barrels can now be calibrated using a series of weights of 5 and 10 grams, supplied with the speargun, which can be fixed with a magnetic coupling to the side rib, under the forend. The use of these weights, combined with the possibility of modifying the weight inside the stock, with weights of 20 and 40 grams, allows to compensate for the weight variations naturally due to the different densities of the woods used and to offer the shooter new balancing options not available so far. There weighing machine Black Edition: the Black Edition over-and-under they feature a black look that alternates matte surfaces with glossy surfaces, giving these rifles a truly unparalleled personality.
The rifle of our test is a 692 Black Sporting with 76 cm barrels and adjustable B-Fast stock: for the occasion I asked my friend Giuseppe Pepe, aka Nuccio, Skeet Olympian at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, to accompany me to the Lazio TAV which is located just outside Rome .
First I mounted the longer butt plate - two are supplied with the rifle, 18 and 23 mm respectively. Then I removed all the weights from the stock: the B-Fast system is a little heavier than the standard cast and I checked the balance of the shotgun, therefore the shotgun is only 3,450 kg, truly an exceptional condition for an over and under with barrels. at 76 cm and external chokes.
I admit that I harbored a bit of skepticism, since I have always preferred heavy guns that guarantee greater stability, but relying on Steelium Plus barrels, with the double connection cone up to 30 cm long from the muzzle, the stability it didn't turn out to be a problem.
I decide to try it first on the propeller, and for the occasion I choose the Apache cartridges of 32 grams of lead n. 7,5 from the Armeria del Campo, by Bruno Caporuscio, father of Federica, a very strong trap shooter of the Beretta Team. These are very fast and efficient ammunition, designed specifically for the propeller, even if not exactly soft. First hit a central propeller, easy: disintegrated. Whoever gets off to a good start is already half the battle. As I imagined, despite the low weight, the rifle does not hint at reckless reactions or excessive recoil: on the contrary, it remains well aligned allowing me to fire the second shot quickly. A single note: the weapon tends to "run" a little, but after a few first settling props, the speed on the target - especially on the first and fifth cassettes - gains considerably.
Nuccio and I take turns pulling ten propellers each and the 692 Black Sporting it turns out to be really very valid: it combines the advantages of the 76 cm barrel with those that are the ease of swing and the weight of a 71 cm one. Given the positive results, I also decide to do a series of Compak hunting courses. First of all I remove two thick rings from the B-Fast stock (here you don't need a very straight stock), and arm myself with Fiocchi F3 Wood Piston 28 grams lead no. 8,5.
Here, too, a light but stable shotgun can be of great advantage, especially when 100/150 targets are shot in the same day. Starting with the shotgun outstretched, you immediately notice a considerable advantage in the acquisition phase of the target and, in the long run, you benefit from the low weight even in the swing phase. This lightness is not at the expense of the accuracy of the gun, thanks above all to the Beretta Steelium Plus barrels, always perfectly in line even on the second shot. It goes without saying that those who are preparing for the "light" rifle for the first time will need a minimum of running in.
Both myself and Nuccio are immediately happy: they are not particularly difficult targets, but in any case suitable for testing the weapon. Let's try the selector thoroughly, and even with inverted barrels we always have light and precise shots with outgoing, incoming and traversing targets.
