The third millennium is characterized by the explosion of information technology, especially applied to mobile telephony: just think that in 2014, around 26 million internet connections from smartphones and tablets were active in Italy alone. All this ferment has naturally also had a strong impact on sports activities.
In the latter period, various applications with GPS geolocation have been created - to be clear, the car navigator system. These "apps", installed on a smartphone, allow the storage of the track of the routes traveled, record speed, altitude, weather conditions, and can be interfaced with devices that monitor the functions of our body, such as frequency heart rate or calories burned, and return a series of information that is particularly useful for understanding the activity performed.
The so-called "mobile apps" immediately found great success among those who practice outdoor sports such as cycling, running, hiking in the mountains and all those activities that somehow involve journeys to be made, both at an amateur and professional.
