Beretta's new assault rifle, called NARP (New Assault Rifle Platform), represents a revolution in the world of firearms. Presented at the DSEI show in London initially in 5,56x45 mm caliber, the NARP stands out for its versatility and ability to adapt to future developments, including other calibers such as 7,62x51 mm. Carlo Ferlito, CEO and general manager of Beretta, underlined the importance of this new platform, designed in close collaboration with the Italian armed forces and based on five fundamental concepts: ergonomics, reliability, modularity, lethality and reduction of the "signature" audible and visible. This demonstrates Beretta's commitment to providing its military customers with a product that specifically meets their needs.
The collaborative approach with the company's operators and engineering team led to the creation of the NARP, an assault rifle that features significant innovations compared to previous models. The mechanics are based on an operating system with a short-stroke "tappet" piston, with a bolt carrier that slides on a steel guide and an internal return spring. This feature allows for the optional installation of a folding stock, ensuring greater operational flexibility.
Externally, the NARP resembles the Ar15 models, but stands out with an innovative mechanical heart. The entirely metal structure is made with two half-castles in 7075 aluminum alloy, hinged together to ensure solidity and durability. The forend features M-Lok interfaces for mounting tactical accessories, offering customization flexibility.
Reducing the weapon's acoustic and visible signatures was a priority in the design of the NARP. Beretta has developed a new sound moderator, the B-Silent, made of Inconel 718 with metal additive manufacturing technology. This internal component reduces any gas return towards the shooter. To reduce the flash when firing, an open three-pronged flash hider has been adopted, equipped with a quick coupling for the moderator.
The Beretta NARP will be available in multiple barrel lengths, suiting a wide range of operational applications. With a 14,5-inch long barrel and an extendable stock, the rifle measures 806 to 888 millimeters, weighing 3.300 grams with an empty magazine.
In conclusion, the Beretta NARP represents a notable step forward in the evolution of assault rifles, offering exceptional performance and unprecedented flexibility. Its design attentive to the needs of operators and the use of innovative materials place it at the forefront of the defense weapons industry.
