Gardone Val Trompia, 19 September 2019 - On the occasion of the World White Rhino Day (September 22nd) Beretta seals a collaboration with the Poaching Prevention Academy (PPA), an organization founded byItalian Association of African Experts, active for over 13 years with the aim of training, motivating and equipping rangers who deal with the protection and protection of endangered animals in various territories of the African continent.
The PPA is active in South Africa with 8 principals (including i Kruger National Parks e Pilanesberg), in Namibia with 4 garrisons (including the headquarters of the PPA, a private reserve with the largest concentration of rhinos in the country and a territory that boasts of never having been touched by poachers), in Botswana with 2 reserves, in Malawi with 2 National Parks and in other reserves and parks scattered between Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania and Congo. Over the years Davide Bomben (Official Instructor) and his 9 Counter Poaching Monitors have trained and supported over 500 rangers, who fight on the front line to protect African animals (especially rhinos) from poachers.
Recently, PPA has undertaken another project for the conservation and protection of African fauna, this time in collaboration with the European Parliament. The fight against poaching and the protection of the rhino are starting to bear fruit in South Africa: in 2018, in fact, the number of rhinos killed fell from 1028 to 768 and in the Pilanesberg National Park, where the PPA has been operational for just over 4 years, it has gone from 80 to less than 20 specimens killed.
The action of the rangers of the Poaching Prevention Academy it also led to the capture of several people linked to rhino poaching, ultimately leading to the arrest of 12 people in South Africa and 10 people in Namibia. Between 2018 and 2019, 147 rangers (59 in Africa alone) lost their lives in the fulfillment of their duty. Careful training and proper equipment are therefore of paramount importance to support these men.
Beretta, always attentive to the conservation of animal species, supports the initiatives of the PPA by donating 275 tactical vests with pouches to rangers who deal with the fight against poaching and who often give their lives for this goal.
It is a great honor for us of the Poaching Prevention Academy and the African Experts Association to be here today - declares Davide Bomben during the delivery ceremony of the vests, which took place in the Beretta Museum in the presence of President Franco Gussalli Beretta - The presence of the President and Beretta's desire to create an ad-hoc product for our rangers shows how much the company really cares about this initiative and when it is making a concrete commitment to support us. All these vests will go to dress our boys directly on the field, who will have the opportunity to wear a new, quality product designed specifically for them. The problem of poaching in Africa is increasingly serious, but from today our rangers will feel less alone because they will have an additional partner alongside them, the large Beretta company, to protect biodiversity, which is our bio-richness.
Beretta has been able to exploit its skills and abilities to create a customized product, built on the specific needs of the rangers, in the same way that every day it designs tailor-made products and specifically designed to meet the needs of its customers. THE shooting vest, which have the Beretta logo in addition to that of PPA, are in fact made up of a chest system made of Cordura technical material with adjustable shoulder straps, with a front platform suitable for the insertion of accessories through the Molle / Pal system and with intermediate pockets equipped with a lace elastic safety catch for magazines. The internal pockets have been specially designed to house 5.56 and 7.62 magazines, the calibers most used by the PPA. The foldable belt pouches in Cordura are multipurpose with velcro closure and adjustable elastic and are completed by a hooking system to the shooting vest. This new initiative in support of the PPA adds to the numerous collaborations that Beretta has long since undertaken with organizations active in the field of conservation, including the Bass Pro Foundation by Johnny Morris, the Safari Club International and UNA (Man Nature Environment) on the Italian territory.
Dealing with hunting also means dealing with issues such as ecology and the environment - Declares Beretta President Franco Gussalli Beretta - as his friend Johnny Morris also understood very well Bass Pro, which recently opened a monumental museum-foundation designed to sensitize all outdoor enthusiasts to conservation issues. In addition to the collaboration with Johnny Morris, we have been supporting the Safari Club International and the activities of A on the Italian territory. I am therefore extremely satisfied with this first step in support of Poaching Prevention Academy. I wish Davide Bomben and all his team an ever greater success in the fight against poaching and in the conservation of African endangered species.
