From a few weeks to European Parliament work continues on the proposed amendments to the guidelines of the Biodiversity strategy. Following more than one thousand two hundred amendments presented, a compromise text was proposed with a series of points, which are currently in constant evolution. The Hon. Marco Dreosto he observes “some parts appear to have improved, such as the proposal to include local authorities and affected communities in the management of protected areas, the integration of financial measures and incentives for the public and private sector for green support actions and the provision of environmental education as an integral part of education systems ".
According to the Vice President ofIntergroup hunting and biodiversity some proposals, however, would not be able to satisfy a rapid resolution of the problems, others would even be counterproductive and excessively binding. This is the case of the management of large carnivores, for which it was sent a special letter to the EC “Although an assumption of awareness of the problems among breeders and large carnivores has also been expressed through the adoption of adequate compensation measures and to address the wolf's hybridization problem, if the Commission does not act by modifying the status of the species in the annexes of the Habitats Directive, the Member States will always be too limited in their management action ”, asserts Dreosto.
Other critical points would be referred to proposal for a law on biodiversity that is legally binding on member states. Among the other "border-line" proposals, Dreosto cites those of the greens and the radical left, who would like to equate the legal trade in wildlife with the illegal one, proposing to even reduce the consumption of wildlife and to introduce crimes against it. , equating the environmental crimes such as illegal fishing and killing to more serious criminal activities.
