On Sunday 17 November 2024, at the Terranuova Bracciolini shooting range (Arezzo), the second edition of the Blaser-Sauer-Mauser Marathon ended, a circuit of races that crossed Italy from May to November, involving hunter-shooters in precision tests at variable distances. The competition, organized by Luigi Giusti with the collaboration of Opes Italia, SS Lazio, Blaser Club Italia and Mauser Club Italia, saw the participation of about forty enthusiasts.
The tests took place in various locations:
- Gallium (Asiago, Vicenza): three shots at 200 meters on a fox target with covered score, without test shots and with supports provided by the range.
- Torgnon (Aosta): 200-meter shooting at a roe deer target with covered score, without test shots and with supports provided by the range.
- Lugnano (Perugia): three shots at 200 meters and three at 300 meters, without practice shots; at 300 meters, the participants also had to break two clays placed on the sides of the target.
- Legra Farmhouse (Pavia): two gongs at 300 meters to be hit while shooting prone and five shots at 200 meters on a bench, both sessions without back support.
- Terranuova Bracciolini (Arezzo): seven shots at 540 meters, with the best five scoring.
The regulation required the use of entirely original rifles (barrel, stock, action), with no limits on caliber, optics and magnification, thus emphasizing the shooters' skills rather than the technical modifications of the weapons.
At the end of the five stages, Renato Ricci and Emanuele Gherardelli found themselves tied at the top of the overall standings. To determine the winner, a play-off was organized: both shooters used a Mauser LR .308 Winchester caliber to hit a target at 300 meters. With a superior performance, Renato Ricci took the overall victory, winning a Sauer S505 rifle.
The Blaser-Sauer-Mauser Marathon 2024 offered participants the opportunity to test their skills in conditions that simulate the challenges of real hunting, while promoting the responsible and competent use of firearms.
