Wild boar hunting - Among the incomparable experiences that Tuscany has given me, Montauto certainly occupies a special place in my trunk of hunting memories. Although in fact it can be simply defined as a large and ancient hunting farm in the territory of Manciano, Montauto is much, much more. It is a timeless and unparalleled place for its ancient vocation for wild boar hunting and the countless human events that are intertwined with it. It is a precious piece of history, which can be walked on and intoxicated by the ruins of the mighty fortress that overlooks it. It is a treasure trove of traditions, where wild boar hunting in Maremma has kept its most authentic form unchanged. It is a kaleidoscope of different faces, voices, styles and temperaments, where they hunt together straplai belonging to different teams of Manciano, and beyond.
This large AFV is found to outline for a stretch the Tuscan - Lazio border. Its territory is very varied and decidedly difficult: from the deep ditches that tortuous streams dig into the rock, you can go up on gentle hills or steep stony ridges, through dense woods. The vegetation is typical of the Maremma: scopes, thorns, stracciabraghe, cavaocchi, marruche and other weeds create real walls, through which even dogs struggle to pass. Man is considered by the nature of these places to be an occasional guest, sometimes tolerated and not too welcome. Montauto with its territory recognizes only one king, the undisputed master of the most hidden ravines: the black beast, king of the scrub.
