Bruno Modugno, journalist, writer, television author and director, died at the age of 87. I knew that sooner or later I would find myself writing this crocodile, but I was hoping not so soon. Sadly I learned this morning 22 July 2020 that the historical friend, the representative of Italian hunters as well as one of the most authoritative journalistic pens of HUNTING PASSION, is no longer there.
Bruno Modugno, well-known face of Sky Caccia and hunter has always died. Born in Rome in 1933 (January 28), in 64 he began to collaborate with RAI-TV. He was the author and host of cultural programs and large daily entertainment containers. During the "years of lead", from '76 to '79, he conducted the TG1 at 13,30pm. He has made numerous documentaries dedicated to ethnological research, adventure, animals and the environment. He has written subjects and scripts for cinema and TV and the lyrics of numerous songs. Together with Folco Quilici and Carlo Alberto Pinelli he wrote the film for MGM, God under the Skin, whose screenplay, published by Minerva Italica, earned him the Bergamo award. He has written a book of short stories (Rome by night), essays and some novels. With his first novel, King of Macchia (Rusconi Editore), entered the five of the Strega prize and won the Un Libro per l'Estate prize. The film of the same name was drawn from this first novel, written and directed by himself (Filmstudio-Mediaset). With his second novel, Cento Scalini di Buio (Rusconi publisher), he won the Vallombrosa prize. With his third novel, Cacciatore d'Ombre (Vallecchi), he won the Città di Piombino and Cypraea awards. The last printed novel, which concludes the Maremma quadrilogy is Balata Saracena (Editoriale Olimpia). With GeMs he published a novel in ebook format, Il Respiro delle Cose, which is still in web bookstores. He wrote a book of poems, Sampietrino di Maggio, published in the Quaderni di piazza Navona series, directed by Elio Filippo Accrocca. From 1979 to 1996 he dealt with the image of UNAVI, being the protagonist of many battles in favor of hunting in newspapers and on TV, helping to win 24 national and regional referendums against hunting. It is thanks to him that the battles for wildlife management also in national parks and protected areas and for the recovery of the Apennine ridge have been won. He was head of the Ethics and Information Commission of the Italian Delegation of the Conseil International de la Chasse et de la Conservation du Gibier. For 20 years he was a member of the management committee of Diana magazine. He founded and directed the monthly Caccia + for four years. From '97 to 2002 he was editorial director of the Seasons monothematic channel (Tele + bouquet). Since 2004 he has been editorial director of the hunting sector of the single-issue channel Caccia e Pesca (235-236 Sky bouquet). He was the first president of one of the youngest among the CONI federations: the FIDASC (Italian Federation of Disciplines with Sporting and Hunting Weapons). For the work carried out and for the successes obtained on international shooting ranges he was awarded by the President of the Republic, on the proposal of the Prime Minister, the honor of Commander of the Order "On Merit of the Italian Republic".
From 2015 to 2018 he created and directed the column "The finger in the eye" on our newspaper Caccia Passione.
He mainly practiced hunting ungulates (wild boar, driven and in selection; chamois, roe deer and red deer with precision rifles). His hunting theaters were the beloved Maremma and the mountains of the Tyrol, always accompanied by his inseparable friend as well as former Managing Director of Passion Hunting, Federico Cusimano.
The editorial team of Caccia Passione, in this moment of great pain, clings to the family of Bruno Modugno, to his friends of all time and to our Federico Cusimano.
SEE YOU BRUNO, THANK YOU.
Pierfilippo Meloni
I send affectionate condolences for the loss of the last and adamant defender of the hunting activity in Italy and in the world. Hi Bruno, we will miss your "in the face of those who want us badly" !!
I would have liked to be able to write like him and talk about Going Hunting and touch people's hearts and make those who don't believe in it understand; he did it and very well, also on behalf of all of us. And I, in my small way, am enormously grateful to him. I am sure that after him, others will continue to talk about feeling part of Nature. Thanks Bruno.
