Buconi's interview
Massimo Buconi, number one of the Italian Hunting Federation, was interviewed by Corriere dell'Economia, an opportunity to explore some of the most current hunting issues. Buconi's intervention concerned what hunting is today, with dutiful clarifications.
An unfavorable climate
Here's what the president had to say about it: "The climate is certainly not favourable, if the hunter is still described as a murderer, if even the tale of Little Red Riding Hood is changed… We hope for a return to normality. Let's get back down to earth. We commissioned a research from Nomisma which shows that the majority of Italians are in favor of hunting, but the majority are also against hunters. And this is the clear sign of the world in which the hunter is represented. On TV we talk about hunting only for the negative aspects. So, our commitment must be to represent the other side of the hunting activity".
Respect for hunters
Buconi then added: “Hunting, protection of biodiversity and the environment can coexist by reconciling interests: land management, woods, wildlife. Because I really don't think, for example, that Italian public opinion believes that you have to live with wildlife in historic centres. Hunters are bioregulators, they contribute to environmental management. According to a study, hunting generates 8,5 billion of the Italian GDP, with 100 employees. The hunting activity – certainly disciplined, regulated – deserves respect".
