Potential impacts and risks
An Extraordinary Regional Plan for the management and containment of wild fauna, sub species wild boar (sus scrofa) to evaluate and undertake actions aimed at mitigating the impacts and potential risks caused in particular by wild boars, a danger to human safety, to environment and biodiversity. This is what was decided by the council resolution approved on the proposal of the Agriculture and Environment Departments. This was announced by the Agriculture Councilor of the Puglia region, Donato Pentassuglia, during the event organized by Coldiretti in Bari, underlining that "this is the definition of an extraordinary plan that will accompany the PRIU, the regional plan of urgent interventions relating to the management of wild boar, which the Puglia Region has already equipped with from 2022, adapting it to national standards. We have made this activity useful and feasible, in concert with the Department of the Environment for Natural Areas, the Natura 2000 Networks so that the management bodies collaborate fully and do not become a burden in the bioregulation of this activity".
Safety and health
“We have accepted a request from Coldiretti and it is a recognition for us – commented the Environment Councilor of the Puglia Region, Serena Triggiani – to the age-old issue of the spread of wild boars in our territories, a problem for public safety and for human health, but also a source of damage to protected areas. With this provision we directly involve the regional and national parks which will have to take charge of the problem as required by law, in sharing the principle according to which wild boar management must be common. We have thus tried to meet the needs expressed several times by the agricultural world, balancing them with the protection of the ecosystem and the maintenance of our habitats in relation to the control measures of the invasive wild boar species in the Apulian territories".
Coordination table
The resolution also provides, with a view to sharing, the establishment of a coordination table with consultative and proactive functions regarding the management and containment of wild fauna, composed of the Region, representatives of the representative agricultural organizations in the regional territory, with tasks of examining the achievement of the targets for the mitigation of impacts and potential risks caused by the Sus scrofa species on anthropic activities, the environment and biodiversity, and of reconnaissance of the activities implemented by the managing bodies of national and regional parks. With respect to the requests made by the agricultural world present this morning at the Coldiretti demonstration on damage from wildlife, Pentassuglia, the Councilor for Agriculture, expressed maximum attention, underlining what has already been implemented by the Region: "We have illustrated the outcome of deliberations, determinations, concrete acts and catches, as well as discussions with the Government for the commissioner ad acta on the wild boar issue. We are not underestimating anything."
On the topic of water emergency, Pentassuglia was keen to point out that "planning and programming are needed because the money allocated with the revolving fund will help carry out projects and investments. We asked the Government for the relevant resources to carry out the strategic works that Puglia needs, also recovering many of the reservoirs and vandalized and abandoned works, the result of work in the past. Therefore a mix of actions that Coldiretti and the entire world of agricultural representation knows very well and has appreciated, as emerged this morning" (source: Puglia Region).
