On Tuesday 17 August some hunters of the Ravenna, who for passion go to constantly observe all the wetlands (even those where hunting is prohibited) to monitor the progress of migration, they realized that once again something was wrong with the Canna Valley: in fact, they observed several ducks in poor health, if not already dead. Considering the high temperatures and the low water level, they immediately understood that it could be another episode of Botox and in fact so then also confirmed theZooprophylactic Institute. Volunteers from all hunting associations immediately lent themselves, some with boats, some with big boots to collect the dead and dying animals for save what can be saved.
Thanks to their previous experience, they learned how to treat birds more quickly and washed several of them. In the following days, some volunteers from animal welfare associations were added just to pose in front of the journalists and disappear again, while even now the hunters are still trying to retrieve the last birds and fish, also patrolling the Ortazzo together with the competent bodies. Quality is not water! The final result of the dead birds is only around 100 subjects (compared to the 3.000 of the last episode), this because fortunately this year the pass is not yet abundant and consequently the animals present in the Valley were very few, otherwise it would have been a massacre again like last year.
The merit of this small number therefore goes only to fate and hunters, not to the management of the Park Authority and the Municipality which still today they don't understand how this oasis should be managed during the summer season. In this regard, we hope they will find a solution as soon as possible, considering that future summers will probably be increasingly hot and arid, perhaps talking to those who have known and lived in those territories for millennia such as hunters and fishermen.
We wish the young new director good luck for the disastrous management he has inherited and our broadest willingness to collaborate. We wanted to clarify how the facts really happened after reading the usual superficial articles in the newspapers that do everything every time to not to recognize the merits of those who work and to hide the demerits of those who implement wrong management. A huge thank you to all the hunters and their families who have once again shown great passion, competence and love for nature (Italian Federation of Hunting e ACMA Ravenna).
