The psychological dependence on US commercial proposals raged for some decades during which the German calibers set the pace: then we went back to giving everyone what they are entitled to according to objective evaluations and that pinch of preference that is neither apology nor supine. to a provenance. Knowing, evaluating, trying is always the best way to get to the best, thus satisfying the needs without preconceptions. The history of this German cartridge is fully part of these considerations: overshadowed by the grazing of the .270 Win. and later by the complex of excellent qualities of the 7 Rem. Mag., Wilhelm Brenneke's creature has taken its revenge by returning to chamber several rifles, but it is above all the version with the collar that displaces the competitors without this detail. The progressive reduction in the number of drilling and a certain maintenance of billing are the pedestal for the now endemic expansion of the kipplauf served in the various versions, especially with the Jäger closing system, affordable (so to speak) in terms of price and successful in the precision. This sprightly centenary is truly polyvalent with its rifling pitch, usually 1 / 8,5 suitable for stabilizing balls with widely spaced weights for which there will be from 7,5 g up to 11,7 g capable of privileging the grazing or a conspicuous energy maintenance up to a distance of 500 m. This should not sound like an invitation to maramaldizzare: certainly within 300 m even the deer stop without problems.
The choice of the bullet must be careful and prudent, as well as the placement of the same in the vital area of the game: Blaser has developed its charges, which it has made by RWS, studying in particular the bullet that it has called Swiss Jagt CDP® like Controlled Deformation Process. The images of an intact bullet and of one in which the deformation takes place are shown on the box and so we note the structure formed by the copper alloy casing with an open tip and a V-shaped median segment between the two internal cores. The deformation begins at the entry of the bullet into the body of the game and here the small uncovered section of the anterior core forces radially against the jacket from which four retroflex curls begin to form whose diameter increases more and more with resistance. The straight section that is created is much wider than the original, moreover with sharp edges, creating a more effective damaging medium. The internal structure is supported by the V-segment maintaining concentricity of the mass during the passage through the barrel and therefore improving stabilization and, consequently, accuracy; furthermore, the hardened rear core is surrounded by an adequate mantle thickness to preserve the total retention of the mass, therefore weight and size, pushing the whole of the projectile for greater penetration.
The ballistic data reported by the manufacturer for the 10,0 g (154 gr) bullet indicate a muzzle velocity equal to 860 m / sec and a GEE (optimal calibration distance) at 176 m with which the maximum arrow is 4. cm at 100 m with a drop of 3,1 cm at 200 and 30,0 at 300 m; energy is always the strong point of this cartridge with initial 3311 J, 3030 at 100 m, 2523 at 200 and again 2086 at 300, therefore also suitable for the male deer. The structure of this ball recalls for certain details, such as the internal separator, the TIG always by Brenneke from which it differs above all for the deformation with curled petals. The new layout by Blaser adds an opportunity to those already tested and, already from what can be perceived from the explanation and the technical data, the favorable results appear within reach.
