The German House Brenneke, known for research in the field of bullets for both smoothbore and rifled barrel, has proposed for several years its own line of central firing cartridges addressed to a not too wide range of calibers, but with different set-ups precisely to satisfy the many requests in terms of specific bullets, today more than ever placed under the lens. magnification by enthusiasts. In the last few months, a different sales strategy of a very large and important cartridge manufacturing group has prompted the company Brenneke and its new Italian distributor, the Bignami di Ora (BZ), to broaden the offer by entering more into the market. Among the many calibers available we have had from Bignami the evergreen 7x65R which, despite its hundred years, or perhaps for this reason, enjoys excellent commercial health guaranteed by its basic performance enhanced by the series of historical bullets such as TIGs and TUGs. now flanked by recent projects such as the TOGs mounted on the cartridges of our test. The ace in the sleeve of the cartridge is the combination with a very short rifling pitch that allows the use of bullets of considerable weight and, given the section, very long with a strong sectional density enhanced by a brilliant initial speed, but above all also maintained at long distances: we recall how a few decades ago this cartridge was credited to 500 m, then a hunting blunder, speaking of greater energy than another wonderful competitor such as the .300 H. & H. Mag.
The packaging and features
Presented in a solid cardboard box le ammunition they are inserted in a fixed beehive, always of the same material: the external appearance is captivating and on the glossy surface the outline of the cartridge stands out first and foremost that of a roaring deer, on the lower edge the company logo with the oak fronds and the acorns, the shape and logo of the TOG ball, the complete wording of the caliber, the ball and its weight in grams and grains. Almost similar the words reported in legible and beautiful handwriting, yellow on a green background, on the sides of the package while, on the back, you can immediately notice a small leaflet applied to the box with the writings in twenty-three languages to protect the user from the danger of explosions ; in outline together with the deer and the brand as already observed, three views of the TOG ball can be seen, from integral sectioned to a first impact to subsequently pass to the affungamento, with the descriptions of the reactions and the function of the bullet alongside each one. Practical and interesting is the ballistic mirror where, together with the speed and energy values at distances between 0 and 300 m, the trajectory is indicated with zeroing at 100 m and the very functional one, with the GEE, the calibration at the optimal distance in order not to exceed in elevation i 4 cm: here the point is located at 182 m with a drop of 300 cm at 27,5 m where we still read 2132 joules for this 9,7 g / 150 gr ball of which we also indicate the CB ( ballistic coefficient) equal to 0,423.
All these values are decidedly favorable, therefore it is necessary to take into account the German design philosophy which assigns a high value to precision, an attentive and not maniacal eye to grazing, a decisive privilege to terminal ballistics where the ability of the vehicle to stop possibly on the spot is concentrated. wild, or at least to inflict injuries that allow for rapid recovery with popular track dogs. In particular, this bullet consists of a sturdy outer coat with a tapered tail, a crimping groove, a median ring with a sharp edge, an acute apex where the thickness of the coat becomes thinner, all welded to the inner core in the shape of a spear with a intermediate round enlargement. The action is carried out with the punched cut of the skin of the wild and bleeding useful for the possible research with the auxiliary, with the elongation of the acute ogive up to the level of the internal enlargement that acts as a resistant point with an increase in diameter and maintenance of the mass for a conspicuous thrust capable of creating a medium diameter with direct injuries to be added to those induced by the speed and therefore by the hydrodynamic shock. Caliber and type of bullet see the possibility of use for all the game in our areas, including the deer and its remarkable vitality and resistance.
A speed check
We didn't go far with the tests by looking at how these cartridges are Brenneke they are certainly expensive, but with a price in line with the truly excellent yield. His friend Carlo mounted the chronograph at the Carrù (CN) shooting range, detecting, with Merkel drilling, a V / 4 equal to 878 and 880 m / sec, therefore respectively + 8 and + 10 m / sec from the statement by the House: let's imagine that the barrel length of 65 cm is responsible for this welcome increase. We do not believe that other words are needed on these data, but we like to add that the sensations at the shot are very favorable, without annoying pressure peaks or other negativities; finally, and then observed at home, very few traces remain in the barrel that can be immediately removed with a pass of detergent and some dry flannel. We are not experts on the subject, but we seem to understand that the use of high quality propellants gives, in addition to everything else, this pleasure too.
