The wildlife and hunting management of the pheasant: this is the title of the volume written and edited by Roberto Mazzoni Della Stella, until some time ago official of the Fauna Office of the provinces of Pisa and Siena, and of Professor Alexander Fioretti, who works in the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production of the “Federico II” University of Naples. The book was presented three days ago, Friday 1st April 2016, at the Municipal Theater of Casapulla, in the province of Caserta, an important opportunity to learn more the hunting themes related to the galliform bird. Among the main interventions it should be remembered that of Valerio Marcello Toscano, president ofTerritorial area of Caserta hunting, who has focused attention on the study and training of hunters when they are called upon to manage and implement the faunal collection of this species.
Dr. Toscano also urged participants to strengthen collaboration with management bodies, the only way to revive the fate of the pheasant, as well as to stop the dissensions and the claims of repopulation. After the interventions of Fioretti and Mazzoni Della Stella the debate began. The presence of some of the members of the management committees of the Lucanian Hunting Territorial Areas was fundamental, namely those of Matera and Potenza.
The hunters who were present at the appointment waited for the end of the presentation of the volume to open a comparison with the speakers, an exchange of experiences and personal opinions which is more than useful. The organizers said they were very satisfied with the outcome of the day. This positive outcome convinced us to organize similar initiatives, in order to update information on the work carried out by ATC and to enhance the comparison on environmental issues. The presentation was a unique opportunity to discuss the best technical and management remedies to find a remedy for the decline of the pheasant species., given that the bird is experiencing a phase that is nothing short of dramatic throughout the country.
However, as could be read in the official poster of the event (in which the name of Francis Santilli, author of the book), the negative moment can only be defined as "ruinous", but fortunately there are technical and management solutions that can be applied in a simple way and without excessive costs. The game could then be overturned by avoiding excessive effort. It is not excluded that there may be others such in-depth and inspiring studies, the topic is very topical and a better knowledge of the pheasant can only benefit the entire world of wildlife and hunting.
