THETuscan-Romagna Apennines represents, for many wildlife, one of the main migratory routes between Europe and Africa: if Italy is the natural bridge, the Apennines are one of the doors that open this bridge. The routes followed by migrants are the product of thousands of years of natural and proper selection migration it is one of the bioindicators of the planet's environmental health. Already Marco Terenzio Varrone, in "De Re Rustica" indicates that "thrushes and other birds fly across the sea in Italy in the period of the equinox in autumn and they take off again towards the same place of origin of the vernal equinox ”.
Therefore, that Italy and the Apennines are important from a migratory point of view is confirmed by old and new studies, not least the Atlas of bird migration in Italy. In the last months of 2019 and early 2020, a project was presented in the Florentine territory that involves the construction and commissioning of a wind power plant called "Monte Giogo di Villore", on the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, in the municipalities of Vicchio and Dicomano and the procedure was started on 23 March 2020, in full health emergency. The ancillary works also affect other municipalities in Mugello e the Municipality of San Benedetto (FC). The project involves the construction of 8 wind turbines with a maximum height of 99 meters, as well as ancillary works necessary for connection to the national electricity grid.
Immediately, urged by its territorial representatives, Federcaccia Firenze, together with the other associations making up the Confederation of Tuscan Hunters of Florence, have acknowledged the cry of alarm and the potential danger for many migratory species that use the Apennine route and with their experts are already working to analyze the environmental impacts of the work, involving expert ornithologists and Italian agronomists and be able to submit the necessary observations within the required time frame. "The defense of migratory routes, the environment and the biodiversity of flora and fauna is a primary interest of our Association - says the President of Federcaccia Firenze Simone Tofani - for this reason we will do everything to protect our territory in defense of all citizens and all hunters regardless of which Association they belong to ".
