The quarter century has been passed brilliantly, now the Certaldo Wild Boar Festival, a municipality that is part of the metropolitan city of Florence, is preparing to blow out 26 candles. From 14 to 17 April next and then again from 21 to 25 Aprilin fact, the 2016 edition of a much awaited event will take place and will certainly be able to satisfy even the most demanding palate. The organization will be handled by the "Canard-Fiorentina" beltlai team. The place chosen, on the other hand, is the Antonino Caponnetto Municipal Multipurpose Center. The ungulate will obviously be the undisputed protagonist of the menus and recipes proposed, but not only. Dinner will be served every day starting at 20pm, while lunch is scheduled on holidays and on Sundays, starting at noon.
The food and wine program is characterized by salami based on wild boar, the famous pappardelle, polenta, tortelli with wild boar sauce, without forgetting the penne with mushrooms which are cooked according to a secret recipe. Even the latter are very respectable, such as for example jugged wild boar and wild boar steaks. One of the main novelties of the menu, then, is undoubtedly the roe deer with potatoes. A small mention obviously deserves the mixed skewers and the wines that will accompany the drinks, that is to say Chianti DOCG, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, red wine in barrique, and Toscano Rosso and Bianco, in short, some of the best grapes of the region.
Certaldo is famous for being the birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio, and sightseeing enthusiasts will find bread for their teeth: you can admire a splendid landscape of the entire province of Florence and the short walks will allow you to reach the historic village, better known as “Castello”. It should not be overlooked that wild boars represent the main topic of hunting discussion throughout Tuscany in recent months. Particularly, exchanges of views concern the law introduced by the regional councilor for agriculture Marco Remaschi.
The latter proposed it after having counted about 500 thousand wild boars throughout Tuscany, responsible for difficulties and damage to the agricultural sector and to the safety of people. The legislation was therefore revised in a general way, distinguishing between suitable areas and non-suitable areas as regards the abatement. The total nine days in the calendar of the twenty-sixth Certaldo Boar Festival will however only be an opportunity for renew a historic event that has always reserved great satisfactions, the goal is to improve the numbers of the last edition.
