Cesena: the beauty with many names ..

We don't talk about Cesena and wrongly, since it is a bird that is not only beautiful but also quite interesting from a purely hunting point of view. It is called in many different ways: in northern Italy it is the Tordo Ciack, but also the Viscarda, or the Gardena and yet it is still her, the Cesena.

Biology: the Cesena it is the largest bird of its family (turdids), the color of the plumage is very attractive and the nuances are very delicate. The head is light gray, the back of a beautiful red tending to brown, the rump is gray and the wings and tail are black. Finally, the chest guarantees the touch of color: it is ocher yellow, dotted with black splashes that give even more elegance to this bird. It is also quite long and weighs around 150g. The Cesena is a rather intelligent creature; this is why it is essential to know its habits to successfully hunt it. She is prudent, she is suspicious and if this were not enough the group, when it moves, relies on real lookouts who remain in control when the others are in the pasture places, warning the herd with incredible speed in case of danger. . It is no coincidence that the only one cesena hunting allowed is that in ambush, equipped with a well camouflaged shed among nature. The only real way through which Cesena approaches is also indispensable. And even as she approaches, she remains suspicious: the slightest unnatural movement in the area of the shed is enough to see her run away and never come back. In short, for those who have not understood it, it is not a rough or simple hunt, but for this very reason it is so satisfying.

Before placing the shed it is good to know the ideal habitat of Cesena. It prefers to inhabit the plains with few trees, not far from wooded areas where normally the Cesena feeds on. For this reason, the presence of throwing trees, berries and various foodstuffs, when preparing a shed, is essential. Just for the record, Cesena is crazy about mistletoe, hawthorn and juniper berries. If these plants are absent or not exactly rich in berries, you could also think about bringing freshly fallen fruits from the trees to the site and placing them strategically to attract birds.

The movement: It is never constant when it comes to Cesene. It can happen that after a very busy day, the following day the Cesene have practically disappeared and for no apparent reason. To determine the movement of this creature is above all the climate, which as previously mentioned must be cold, preferably with perturbations coming from the north. This is why hunting is so difficult but very satisfying: Cesena is difficult to find, difficult to lure, but beautiful and very good. The only not too difficult aspect is related to shooting. Although it has a rather fast flight, this is still free of unexpected movements, so the advice we can give is to pull straight and cross your fingers. The most suitable weapon is certainly a semi-automatic with a barrel of 65 - 70 cm and a choke between three and two stars. Cartridges, on the other hand, are better if at 32 grams with 10, 9 or 8 shots for long shots.
