Still protests in Calabria for the restrictions imposed by the Hunting Calendar approved by the Region. To make their disappointment felt through their press release this time is the Aquatic Migrant Hunters Association.
“The Aquatic Migrant Hunters Association intends to express all its disappointment and regret for the penalized person Hunting Calendar issued by the Calabria Region for the 2011/2012 hunting season. "
Going into the specifics of the hunting calendar issued, the hunting office of the region has inexplicably decided to postpone the opening of the hunt for Mallard and Gadwall to October 1st and close it on January 19th. We remind officials that the species to which the indications of the ORNIS Key Concepts can be applied are, among others, ducks. For these species, using the principle of "decades of overlap" for the beginning of the prenuptial migration and the end of the reproduction period, does not have a negative impact on the populations of the individual species and therefore it is possible and compliant with the regulations as has been claimed several times. also from the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research.
The interpretative guide calls for the adjustment of the opening and closing dates of the Mallard and Gadwall hunt to those foreseen for similar species and not the other way around, so all the anatidae can be hunted from 18 September until 30 January in harmony with the Key Concepts and with the Interpretation Guide and even, given the end of the reproduction period, it would have been possible to allow the opening also on September 1st.
Even more unacceptable is the total elimination between the huntable species of the Fighter and the Tufted Duck. On the first, the motivation is that of the scarce faunal consistency and on the Moretta the confusion with other non-huntable species, in practice with the Tobacco Moretta. According to Wetlands International, the Fighting species, on the basis of accurate censuses during the wintering period, has registered increases in presences in Europe and fluctuations-increases in sub-Saharan Africa. It follows that the overall demographic situation of the species can be assessed as favorable. On the Moretta, the hunting associations had proposed the postponement of the opening to 1 November, a solution already adopted by the Emilia Romagna Region and which allows to protect the populations of Moretta tabaccata eventually nesting or in transit in the Calabria region ".
The Calabrian ACMA highlights the climate of media terrorism created by the various environmental associations that threaten appeals of all kinds and invites them to base their arguments on reliable scientific data instead. Finally, the ACMA "asks the Regional Hunting Office to abide by the only (albeit outdated) certain law on hunting, the 157/92 and to remedy the incorrect assessment, reinserting the Fighter and the Tufted Duck among the huntable species, opening the hunt for Germano and Gadwall on 18 September, closing it on 30 January 2012 and asking ISPRA's opinion to extend the hunt for some aquatic species until 10 February ". ACMA declares itself available for any collaboration.
