Cheddite Italy - Hunting Cartridges: A shotgun without a cartridge is like a sky without stars. The phrase is taken from a famous writing on men's T-shirt models, where in reality it is said that "a man without a belly is like a sky without stars."
Hunting rifles, however, not only need the hunter's "belly" and muscles, but also the cartridges suitable for shooting and hitting game. The cartridge market offers different types of ammunition. The ones we talk about in this article concern the latest news from Cheddite Italy, a leading company in the production of shotgun cartridges.
With its factories located between Italy, France and Switzerland, Cheddite is now an international player in the cartridge market, even if its origins are purely Italian because they were born from the idea of two friends who lived in a small town in the high Savoy, on the border between Switzerland and France.
The two friends, then, back in 1800, invented an explosive for quarries and mines to which they gave the name of "Cheddite", which in Italian means "explosive". The company's Italian factory was founded in Livorno in 1901, followed by other factories in Switzerland and France. Each plant specializes in the creation of cartridge components, i.e. cases, primers, buscioni and wads, but also in the production of gunpowder.
The Italian plant that bears the name Cheddite Italy specializes, initially, in components and then in the production of explosives and gunpowder. But it was a short step from powders to cartridges and in a few years the company became the official manufacturer of complete and functioning cartridges.
The latest news from the Cheddite Italy factory in Livorno concern three types of dispersant cartridges, called, respectively: Granular, JK6 34g and Novecento. All ammunition shown is suitable for 12 gauge shotguns.
La Granular cartridge, from the name of the homonymous powder coined by the company, is the most recent novelty in the field of hunting ammunition branded Cheddite. Ideal for larks and turtledove, the Granular cartridge is fast and precise, thanks to the stability of the homonymous powder, which also resists changes in temperature. The technical characteristics of Granular are: bottom height 8 mm; case height 70 mm; highly precise and performing trigger in the CX2000 model; "Aquila" wad; lead 31 grams; pellets available in the numbering 7-8-9-10-11-12; stellar closure; packing box 25/250.
La JK6 cartridge 34g is made with the homonymous gunpowder developed by Cheddite. This cartridge is particularly suitable for winter hunting, when there are many humid and cold days, and for valuable game such as woodcock, pheasant, wood pigeon and snipe. The technical characteristics of the JK6 34g cartridge are: bottom height 12 mm; case height 70 mm; trigger CX2000; "Drago" wad; lead 34g; pellets available in a number ranging from 5 to 12; stellar closure; packing box 25/250. The JK6 34g cartridge also covers distances of 100 meters.
La Novecento cartridge it is loaded on a classic felt case mixed with the plastic one. The double combination of materials guarantees a more homogeneous pattern both at short and medium distances. The cartridge is ideal for hunting in the woods or with the pointing dog. The technical characteristics of the Novecento cartridge are: back height 16 mm; mixed wad in felt and plastic; lead 35 g; dots in numbers ranging from 5 to 10; packaging box 10/200; case height, closure and trigger, equal to those of the Granular and JK6 34g cartridges.
These cartridges guarantee precise shots at short and medium distances and show high resistance even in conditions of low temperatures and high humidity. Cheddite powders are specifically designed not to be damaged by humidity and to keep their ballistic performance unaltered. A special mention deserves the CX2000 trigger.
This component, always developed by the company, guarantees a high and stable firing power, even if it has a slightly smaller diameter than the other primers. The measurement of the same is probably not done randomly, but serves to avoid blocking it during charging.
