A repeating situation
“For years now we have been bringing the issue of wildlife to the appropriate forums Belluno mountains. Following recent news events, we hope that the competent bodies, above all the Veneto Region and the Province of Belluno, implement specific countermeasures aimed at controlling animals such as wolves, deer, wild boars, bears and corvids”. The appeal is launched by CIA-Agricoltori Italiani Belluno on the eve of Hunting, Fishing and Nature, scheduled for this weekend at Longarone Fiere. “If until recently wildlife was responsible, and in reality it still is, for extensive damage to crops and attacks on livestock - analyzes the president of CIA Belluno, Rio Levis - today the problem also concerns the safety of people". Probably, he adds, “until now the authorities have underestimated the problem. As regards the management of wild animals, the task of monitoring them must not be assigned only to the provincial guards, who are few in number compared to the needs".
Control operations
Even farmers, after specific courses, "should be granted the possibility of carrying out the various control operations". Not only. According to Cia Belluno it is also strategic to proceed with an "education" of these animals; for example, using rubber bullets, baits and traps. In any case, adds the president, "we strongly support the amendment of law 157 of 1992 called Rules for the protection of wildlife, since it is now very dated".
Proper management
“In the current context - he continues - it is necessary to go beyond the principle of protection to arrive at that of correct management in our territories. There seems to be an opening on the part of the Government; we will continue to keep attention on the issue. The time has come -concludes Levis- for the Institutions to really listen to the requests of agricultural organizations regarding a long-standing and at the same time delicate topic". (Source CIA)
