“Sorry that Rai has ignored the civil protest of farmers on the occasion of the passage of Tour of Italy in the Chierese area. It is right to bring out the beauty of the area and the desire to restart, but those who have had the opportunity to see those splendid images should also have known that precisely on that environment and on those cultivated fields the wild boars are causing enormous damage, putting the survival of farms at risk. The situation is unsustainable, we no longer know how to say it, or who to turn to. We are under the illusion that the cameras of the Giro could make this serious problem visible, after which we continue our battle in all institutional settings to solicit immediate interventions ”.
So Stefano Rossotto, president of Cia-Italian Farmers of the Alps, comments on the lack of framing, by the cameras of the Giro d'Italia, of the huge writing "wild boar emergency" created by a column of tractors in the fields of the Chierese to draw attention to the proliferation of ungulates that it is putting local farmers in dire straits. “Cia Agricoltori delle Alpi has been fighting for years to obtain measures to contain wildlife - continues Rossotto -, unfortunately no institution, beyond formal assurances, has yet to put concrete measures into practice. Recently the Prefecture of Turin has opened an institutional discussion table to which we proposed that the territorial companies for hunting, the Alpine Compartments and the Higher Institute for environmental protection and research also be involved.
Immediately, we asked the Metropolitan City to give the green light to the company tutor, as required by regional law and already active in other Piedmontese provinces, to somehow counter the rage of wild boars. Turin is the province most affected by this emergency. We are not convinced by the proposal to establish the game meat supply chain to encourage the slaughter of wild boars. Instead of limiting the number of heads, it would risk multiplying it, because a commercial interest would be created, among other things to the detriment of the traditional livestock sector, already in serious crisis ”. Rossotto also expresses solidarity with the farmers and citizens who recently set up the Friends of Piedmontese Rural Environments Committee (Co.AARP) and promoted a specific popular petition to request urgent action against wildlife: "We are at your side", assures the president of Cia Agricoltori delle Alpi.
