Expropriation prospects
Cia Grosseto finds itself once again having to take a position on the planning and installation of plants for the production of renewable energy, especially wind energy. Attention is currently focused on the municipalities of Scansano and Magliano, where a project has been presented that includes the installation of eleven large wind turbines, with a capacity of approximately 7 MW each. The project has already reached an advanced stage of execution, with the preparation of expropriation plans for the areas concerned. “The territory involved - states Claudio Capecchi, president of CIA Grosseto - is characterized by a significant presence of high-quality agricultural activities, which constitute a strategic value not only for the local economy, but also for the cultural and landscape identity of the area. The establishment of wind farms of this size risks compromising not only agricultural production, but also the real estate value of homes, land and businesses operating in the primary sector. The presence of infrastructures of this size, in fact, generates a significant visual impact and could reduce the attractiveness of the area both for investments and for rural tourism, a sector that is important for the local economy”.
Institutional meetings
The Tuscany Region has already expressed a position of opposition to this specific wind farm and for this reason Cia-Grosseto will participate in all institutional meetings with the municipalities involved to discuss and evaluate the positions with respect to the project. "Our position remains clear - Capecchi continues - we are not against the production of energy from renewable sources, but we contest the methods and locations chosen for these plants. We consider it unacceptable that a territory of high agricultural and landscape value is penalized by a choice that does not take into account the economic and social impacts on local communities, without any real benefit for the territory that only bears the negative effects. Furthermore, potential noise pollution could further compromise the tranquility of the homes and agritourisms located in the area, damaging the peace and well-being that characterize the stay in the accommodation facilities of this area, negatively influencing the flow of tourists and local economic activities".
Ratio between consumption and production
Another critical aspect concerns the distribution of renewable energy production in the Tuscany Region. The Grosseto area, like other provinces in the south of the region, already contributes significantly to the production of energy from renewable sources. “Therefore, a rebalancing would be necessary to identify new areas for the production of renewable energy in areas of the region where the ratio between consumption and production is different compared to the province of Grosseto - Capecchi underlines -. Our opposition is not ideological, but based on concrete data that highlight direct damage to valuable agricultural production, land and local homes. We reiterate the need for a preventive and in-depth discussion with the agricultural world before proceeding with decisions that directly impact the rural economy. The territory cannot continue to suffer choices imposed from above without adequate consultation between the parties involved” (source: CIA Grosseto).
