“The six operators of Veneto Agriculture employed in containment of wild boars in the Parco Colli area are hired for an indefinite period in order to give continuity to the service itself ". The appeal is of Cia-Farmers Italians Padua on the "eve" of the expiry of their fixed-term contract. In January they signed an agreement for a total of 137 working days each; in a few weeks, therefore, they will finish their activity. Another three, on the other hand, hired for an indefinite period, will continue to work regularly. "It is necessary that the ranks of the team are not reduced", notes Cia Padova.
As for the latest data available, 144 ungulates were killed in April; 485, in all, since the beginning of 2021. These are numbers far higher than the same period in 2020, when we were in lockdown: just 2020 wild boars were contained in April 23, 135 in the first quarter of last year. "Now that operations have resumed at full capacity - underlines the president of Cia Padova, Roberto Betto- we hope that they will not be interrupted again, as happened last November, in a sort of stop & go that does not benefit anyone ". On the occasion, or six months ago, Cia Padova and the other agricultural organizations in the area presented an application for immediate reinstatement to Veneto Agricoltura, the Regional Councilor for Parks, Cristiano Corazzari, and the Parco Colli: “This problem is repeated regularly every year. In this way, however, a few months' vacuum is created in relation to the control of wild boars ”.
Today, in fact, Cia Padova officially asks for resolve this issue once and for all. “In the first place - President Betto specifies - I would like to thank the Region, Veneto Agriculture and the Parco Colli, on this issue they have always shown themselves attentive to the needs of agricultural entrepreneurs and the community. Now more than ever you need to do a further step towards the goal of a general containment of wild boars, which are creating so many problems for crops ”. In other words, "the competent bodies are called upon to regularize the position of the six operators, through a fixed contract, so that they can proceed quickly to secure all the area of the Euganean Hills". This is why Cia Padova hopes for the preparation of “a systematic activity, not on a spot, to safeguard both our agricultural entrepreneurs and citizens. A year's work of farmers can be thwarted in one night only: where they pass, the wild boars destroy everything, they do not look at anyone ”.
