Insufficient efforts
“We understand the difficulties and appreciate the efforts made to date by the institutions, but we note with regret and concern that all this has not been enough to contain the damage caused by wild fauna in Piedmont. In this season, the newly sown fields are devastated by wild boars, in the vineyards the roe deer are making a clean sweep of the shoots, not to mention the wolves, increasingly numerous and aggressive not only in the mountains, but also close to the farms in the plains, where also the coypu play a devastating role, infesting and ruining the irrigation channels. The farmers continue to pay the very high price of this situation first hand, in many cases their activity in the territory is seriously compromised, if not impracticable, so we cannot go on”. Thus the regional president of Cia-Agricoltori italiani del Piemonte, Gabriele Carenini, relaunches the alarm of the members of the region.
Wildlife containment
“Our Organization has always fought for the containment of wild fauna - continues Carenini - both at a national level, with legislative proposals and requests for greater resources for compensation, and at a local level, collaborating in every way with the Region and the interested bodies to promote the application of the regulations”.
Excessive number of wild animals
"The main problem remains the excessive number of wild animals in circulation, the culling is not enough, we need to act more decisively. In the specific case of wild boars, in addition to the damage caused in the fields, there is also the risk of the avoidable spread of the swine fever contagion, with incalculable damage to the regional pig sector, among the most important in all of Italy".
