The scourge of wild boar overpopulation it is at a concrete turning point. From a problem for farmers to a resource for the agri-food heritage of Campania. It is the project announced by Coldiretti Campania, which will start in the Matese mountain area, through the collaboration between the CRIUV - Regional Reference Center for Veterinary Urban Hygiene and the Falode multifunctional agricultural cooperative in Castello del Matese, with the support of the Coldiretti Caserta federation. The project - explains Coldiretti Campania - is based onintegration between the rules in force in the Park area and hunting selection actions carried out in contiguous areas.
In fact, in the Park area selective hunting is not allowed, but the capture through the manhole covers, a model of trap already tested. The wild boars thus captured will be brought in a gathering area at the Falode cooperative. Here, in the company slaughterhouse and under the control of the ASL, the enhancement of the meat will be carried out, together with the wild boars killed in the areas with hunting selection. The meat supply chain will therefore be removed from poaching, with consequent protection for human health, certifying it with the competent public bodies. “Coldiretti - he says Salvatore Loffreda, regional director of the main agricultural organization - for three years has been asking for a controlled and traceable supply chain of wild boar meat to ensure compliance with the rules and the healthiness of what ends up on the black market.
Through our technicians we have presented concrete proposals to solve the problem and stop the clandestine trade. I thank the director Coldiretti Caserta, Giuseppe Miselli, and the technician Virginio Bianco for the work started in the area together with CRIUV technicians, Valerio Toscano and Paolo Varuzza. " In the next few days, the councilor for agriculture Nicola Caputo will be presented with a path for the creation of a brand of the meat, cured meats and wild boar sauces produced in Campania. "Our model - underlines Gennarino Masiello, president of Coldiretti Campania - is based on the enhancement of small local producers who, thanks to their experience in processing pigs, can offer the consumer excellent products able to make known and appreciated the quality of a meat raised by mother nature and transformed at zero kilometer.
Wild boar has become a serious problem, not only for farms, but for the safety of citizens with the proliferation of accidents. Full collaboration between the agricultural world, hunting and institutions is needed to transform a problem into a resource. Coldiretti insists on developing a virtuous process able not only to reduce the impact of the wild boar, restoring a totally distorted natural balance, but to generate income integration by expanding the list of Campania gastronomic excellences.
