The topics of the meeting
Water crisis, wildlife, protection of Made in Cuneo agri-food against misleading labeling systems and synthetic food, valorisation of Piedmontese beef, unfair practices along the fruit supply chain, viticulture problems. These are the main themes at the center of the meeting between the President and the Director of Coldiretti Cuneo and the President of the Province of Cuneo. Satisfaction was expressed by Coldiretti Cuneo for the sensitivity shown and the commitment ensured in the coming months by the Province, the basis for a fruitful collaboration for the benefit of Cuneo agriculture. “I was pleased to meet Coldiretti to take stock of the problems of agriculture in the Cuneo area and what the Province can do, even in the narrowness of its competences. The theme of the themes, in this historic moment, is water, on which I intend to start a common work not only to talk about but also to start intervening and, in this regard, one of the solutions to the problem could be the creation of mini reservoirs . The Province is there on this and wants to give its support” assured the President of the Province, Luca Robaldo.
Wide sharing, therefore, on the need for an Invasi Plan that Coldiretti has been asking for for years, well before the effects of climate change became evident, which in our area is manifesting itself with prolonged hot and dry periods, interrupted by violent rainfall. For now, winter is repeating last year's script, with rain and snow completely absent or insufficient to remedy a water deficit which - Coldiretti Cuneo highlights - puts the 2023 irrigation year at risk. economic activity that more than any other experiences the consequences of climate change on a daily basis - recalled the President of Coldiretti Cuneo, Enrico Nada, during the meeting in the Province - for this reason we reaffirm the need to act methodically, planning structural interventions.
It is necessary not only to identify efficient and effective ways to manage the emergency, but also to start a process through which to pay the necessary attention to the issue of irrigation infrastructures and to increase the conservation capacity to use water in moments of greatest hydroneedness, overcoming the current condition of widespread dispersion". Another hot topic is wildlife management. “The data show how the control activity of the Province, albeit with still insufficient numbers, is increasing the killing of wild boars, but it is necessary to invest to increase the personnel in charge of this activity. One year after the explosion of the first case of wild boar plague in Piedmont, the numbers of what was supposed to be an extraordinary depopulation action are completely insufficient, making a situation that damages agricultural production, the environment and exposes the citizens to road accidents, unfortunately also fatal” reiterated the Director of Coldiretti Cuneo Fabiano Porcu in the meeting.
"The Province is applying the new rules that have been issued by the Region and we are confident that 2023 - said President Robaldo - will be the year in which we will be allowed to increase the number of wildlife-hunting guards to contain a problem that risks to bring devastating results such as the spread of swine fever, which must be eradicated in the interest of a Province that has one of the pillars of our agriculture in the farmers”. Finally, President Robaldo, already a signatory of the Coldiretti petition "No to synthetic food", undertook to bring the matter to the Provincial Council to deliberate the support and adhesion to Coldiretti's initiatives against fake "meat" and "milk", artificially produced in the laboratory (source: Coldiretti).
