No depopulation
Since last January 7, the African swine fever (ASF) has gripped the Liguria, its forests and its hinterland. In this scenario, our regional federation encounters the same problems highlighted by the Extraordinary Commissioner for the prevention and containment of ASF, Angelo Ferrari, in an interview given in recent days to Secolo XIX. Indeed, it is evident that Commissioner Ferrari's concerns regarding the failure to depopulate the wild boars are concrete. Concerns, moreover, also shared by Coldiretti Liguria, as underlined several times over the last few months.
The "card" of the Army
“The PSA continues to circulate - explain Gianluca Boeri and Bruno Rivarossa, President of Coldiretti Liguria and Confederal Delegate - and it is necessary to depopulate the ungulates as soon as possible, in compliance with current legislation and in any plausible form. Also through the army or by contacting specialized personnel if necessary, as well as a concrete commitment on the part of the hunters”. Without timely and concrete intervention, the problem will not be solved.
Numerical differences
Swine fever “didn't go away – continue Boeri and Rivarossa – far from it, and to date the number of animals slaughtered is clearly lower than the estimated estimates. In Liguria there is only talk of 450 animals compared to the 35.451 wild boars which the PRIU (Regional Plan for Urgent Interventions) has foreseen for their culling. It is clear that “the institutions must find a concrete solution to carry out these operations, which are fundamental for the safety of citizens, farmers and breeders of Liguria. The territory and the population must be protected and the region made safe".
