Too many specimens
With 2,3 million wild boars representing the main vehicle for the spread of African swine fever (Psa) in Italy, besieging cities and countryside and endangering the safety of people, it is good that the first green light will arrive for a widening of wild boar hunting “with the use of follow-up dogs in the period from 2022st October 31 to 2023st January 18, in implementation of the provisions of art. 2 paragraph 157 of law 1992/XNUMX ". This is what the Coldiretti Molise with reference to the response of the group of experts of the Ministry of Health which expresses a favorable opinion on a request to that effect made by the Lombardy Region after the alarm launched by the national President, Ettore Prandini, in a specific letter addressed to the extraordinary national Commissioner for swine fever African, Angelo Ferrari, in asking for the integration in the current Priu (Urgent Intervention Plan) of the hunting activity against wild boars. "An integration - argues Coldiretti Molise - that it would be appropriate to be allowed, as a preventive measure, also in Molise where the presence of wild boars is estimated at over 40 thousand specimens".
Wild to be eliminated
“Reducing the number of wild boar species - argues Coldiretti - means effectively countering the spread of Psa in those areas where it has not yet manifested itself. Considering the situation of extreme emergency due to damage and road accidents caused by wildlife - the Organization continues - the positive opinion expressed by the experts from the Ministry on hunting activities to contain wild boars is a first significant step to break a real wall of prejudices fueled by a myopic propaganda of a false environmentalism that has no respect for the activity carried out by farmers in the area ”. "The herds of wild boars - says Aniello Ascolese, Regional Director of Coldiretti Molise - have become the main vector of swine fever and put at risk a leading sector of the Made in Italy agri-food sector that guarantees work even in Molise for hundreds of companies and thousands of people between breeding, processing, transport and distribution, companies that keep the inland areas that characterize our Region alive ”.
The use of killing
The invasion of wild boars is considered a real emergency, so much so that over 8 out of 10 Italians think that it must be faced with the use of killing, especially by hiring specialized personnel to reduce the number, also because one in four Italian adults (26%) is is found face to face with these animals. In this regard, Coldiretti Molise has already done its part, organizing together with the Region, two courses for the issue of the certification of "selecontrollori". About 190 subjects participated in the courses, including farmers and hunters, holders of hunting licenses, who will now be able to intervene on agricultural funds to protect crops from wild boar raids.
