“It is insane to think of managing the wild boar emergency without resources and without means. Looking at the meat supply chain, in these conditions, means leaving the field free to wild boars in their work of destruction ”. On the boar emergency Coldiretti Padua reiterates that there is no time to waste, also given the latest episodes, and returns to ask the Region to encourage the culling, thus responding to the observations of the regional councilor for agriculture Giuseppe Pan who in recent days has relaunched and defended the idea of proceeding with the enhancement of the wild boar meat supply chain, defining the proposal of the Coldiretti farmers and some mayors of the Parco Colli area to bring the carcasses of the ungulates directly to the incinerator as “insane”.
“We are in a state of emergency - recalls Massimo Bressan, president of Coldiretti Padova - and it is not just us farmers who say it. Just scroll through the chronicles of these days, in which news of accidents multiply due to the fact that the wild boars continue to roam freely. It is insane to postpone solving the problem solely to please those who would like to do business with wild boar meat. It is clear that it would be desirable to enhance this "resource" too, but at present thinking of managing the meat supply chain without resources and means only means postponing the problem indefinitely. This is why we answer Councilor Pan - continues Bressan - that the only solution, today, is that of the incinerator. Mayors and administrators of municipalities who insist within the Park of the Euganean Hills are also convinced of this and as far as we are concerned the question is already closed and there is no need to continue wasting time on a solution that is not practicable at the moment.
We invite the councilor and the Region to concentrate instead on catches and to equip the Park with men and means to proceed more effectively. In these days, we remember, the harvest is starting but the wild boars have already collected the best bunches in many vineyards. Even the agritourism operators of Terranostra Padova have raised a cry of alarm to denounce the losses suffered in recent months. Furthermore, the data of the study conducted by Professor Tarolli of the University of Padua speak for themselves: wild boars contribute to the hydrogeological instability of the Hills, removing hundreds of cubic meters of land, causing landslides and landslides even near roads and inhabited centers. Faced with all this and with a Parco Colli still waiting for a new governance - concludes Bressan - it seems to us that the question of meat is the least of the problems ”.
