By changing the setting of the hunting calendar, compared to the hunting season 2021-2022, Piedmont region has introduced an experimental formula that provides for the possibility, for the entire month of January 2022, to carry out, by individual teams of hunters, the selection hunt for wild boar with the help of a maximum number of three dogs. The declared objective would be to contain the number of wild animals that, at the regional level, is around 80 thousand specimens. Roberto Moncalvo, president of Coldiretti Piemonte, and Bruno Rivarossa, confederal delegate highlight: "The measure, moreover not well-liked by Ispra, only increases the interest of a small group that controls portions of the territory, and which has been doing so for some time to the detriment of farmers and the actual needs of citizens, but which does not go to the root of the problem ».
Coldiretti executives continue: "This is apparently an experimental mode, which actually strengthens a system that has failed over the years and leaves management in the hands of a few, ensuring that wildlife continues undisturbed to feed on the products grown by our farmers. It is undisputed that the number of specimens should be significantly reduced having now reached an unsustainable level of saturation, but it is necessary to intervene with a more structured approach, making use of technology and more effective hunting methods. Thus they harm society, with the steady increase in road accidents, and the agricultural sector, further compromising the environmental balance of territorial ecosystems with the loss of biodiversity and the risk of spreading diseases ».
