The hunting season 2015-2016 ended recently, but thewild boar emergency continues to remain on the agenda, particularly when looking at the situation of Marche. The agricultural association Coldiretti proposed a draft law that could help resolve the problem and which is characterized by several interesting points. The main ones consist of the possibility offered to farmers in the Marche region to carry out the killing, but also in the mapping of the areas and crops that need greater protection, without forgetting the insurance support to the companies involved.
Coldiretti has carefully analyzed the data provided by theISPRA and noted how the ungulate population is in our country doubled in just ten years, reaching the not very encouraging quota of ten million specimens. In Tuscany there is a law approved precisely to deal with the emergency, however, a similar text would also be needed in the Marches. What exactly is happening in the central Italy region?
The damage to crops is now considerable, as pointed out by the direct farmers, due to the uncontrolled presence of wild boars: the paradoxical fact, however, is represented by the lack of reporting by some farmers, who live in uncertainty and are unable to say whether they will be able to compensate for the crops that have been destroyed. It is therefore preferred not to act in most cases. Moreover, the association made it known how wild boars have a decidedly negative impact on the environment as well, given that they are able to alter the soil from a chemical point of view, an impact caused by the continuous and deep excavations in search of roots in which these wild animals become protagonists.
Soil erosion is a further problem not to be underestimated, as well as the road safety alarm, as wild boars appear suddenly and at dangerous times. In this sense, a recent investigation by Coldiretti highlighted the doubling of lawsuits in the Marche against the Region and the Provinces, actions promoted by people who have suffered an accident caused by the wild animal.
In detail, the value of the cases in question has reached a high level 765mila euros, far higher than a year earlier. Just last summer a provocation was launched in this regard by the mayor of Ancona, Valeria Mancinelli: according to the mayor, in fact, the flamethrower against wild boars would even be needed, which should be exterminated, an externalization that left the governor of the Marches astonished, as he was more convinced by the use of genetics.
