Presentation at the press conference
The Association was presented this morning in Perugia, at the Hall of Honor of Palazzo Donini Agrivenatoria Biodiversitalia (AB) which brings together the agricultural and hunting companies of the country, including Umbria, born on the initiative of Coldiretti and the National Hunting and Nature Committee (Cncn). In attendance were the President of Coldiretti Umbria Albano Agabiti, the President of the Biodiversitalia Agrivenatorial Association Niccolò Sacchetti, the President of the Umbria Region Donatella Tesei, the Regional Councilor for Agriculture Roberto Morroni and Guido Vivarelli Colonna, AB Umbria Representative. It is - informs Coldiretti - a large network of companies that carry out a balanced and sustainable fauna and territory management model capable of giving value to biodiversity, to the beauty of our agricultural landscapes in perfect harmony with agricultural production and management silvo-pastoral of the country. A careful management of the fauna coordinated with the agricultural world also has the aim of representing a barrier to the indiscriminate proliferation of wild species that endanger the lives of citizens on the roads and Made in Italy agri-food productions, starting from its leading sectors, but also to protect the environment, through a widespread presence capable of preventing fires and the dangers associated with hydrogeological instability and combating climate change by enhancing the role of forests in capturing CO2, but with important effects also from an economic point of view for the tourism and agri-food sector.
Abandoned fertile land
“In recent years, thousands of hectares of fertile land have been abandoned in many cases precisely because of the proliferation of wildlife which damages crops and the profitability of farmers, lands which today, in addition to no longer being productive, are exposed to erosion and hydrogeological instability - said the President of Coldiretti Umbria Albano Agabiti. With this Association we want to support an idea of an equipped countryside that looks to the future, able to offer services to people, through the management of common goods. But the new Association also aims to enhance the role of the hunter in internal areas. An example is the valorisation of the tourist role of wildlife hunting companies, on the basis of what has been done in past years with wine tourism, at the same time starting work with schools. And an important opportunity can also come from the creation of a new game meat agri-food chain, capable of creating economic value especially in disadvantaged areas”.
The missions of the association
"Among the missions of our Association - explained Niccolò Sacchetti President of AB - that of developing the heritage of biodiversity, enhancing the image and role of companies and wildlife-hunting activities in the economy of the territories, in protecting the environment and of the landscape. But also to sensitize the new generations and bring them closer to an integrated and synergistic vision of agriculture, nature and hunting. With AB – he added – we intend to represent a diversified entrepreneurial panorama that shows the plural face of agriculture linked to geographical, territorial and environmental factors. Among the services offered to our members, those related to running the business, also through competent technicians in wildlife matters”. “The great biodiversity that characterizes our territory – underlined the President of the Umbria Region Donatella Tesei – is a fundamental value of Umbria. As is sustainability, which finds its natural cradle in Umbria. For this reason, networking the wildlife hunting companies that have those precise missions is an extraordinary operation worthy of the utmost attention. Correct and integrated management of the agricultural and wildlife worlds and what follows from them, ie the protection of the territory and excellent agri-food products, are qualifying elements for our region. For this I congratulate you on the initiative and as an institution we are ready, each in its role, to have a proactive collaboration".
Generate economy
"The idea of networking the various subjects who live in the area, as well as contributing to the consolidation of the relationship between apparently conflicting realities, certainly represents an opportunity to generate an economy and demonstrates all the necessary awareness on the part of the agricultural and hunting world of faced with a constantly evolving picture” – declared the Regional Councilor for Agriculture Roberto Morroni. “It has been evident for some time now – said Guido Vivarelli Colonna, AB Umbria Representative – how the protection of biodiversity has also become central in discussions of economic development all over the world. We have essentially moved from a concept of protection tout court to a broader, less static concept of necessary protection but also focused on economic values. Private hunting institutes, embracing large areas of territory and having as their mission precisely that of protecting the environment, protecting and increasing noble game, have already been playing this role for a long time which has become primary due to the sensitivity of public opinion. Protection, management, collection of a well-kept faunal heritage have always been the cornerstones of the correct management of the companies to which Ab turns. Clear rules and economic dignity are needed for this cyclopean task to which certain entrepreneurs and/or concessionaires are called, even through financing channels that are currently precluded to private hunting institutes as such. Protecting and managing biodiversity is a duty; doing it also with the support of adequate tools is certainly more productive with obvious benefits for the whole community” (source: Coldiretti Umbria).
