Hunting and wild boars, Coldiretti asks that Parco Colli follow the "Lessinia model". And in the meantime about Euganean we return to collect comforting numbers in terms of slaughter: the June just ended was among the most prolific ever: 247 wild boars slaughtered in a month. On the territory of the Monte Baldo and Lessinia - area not too far from the Euganean - the results obtained with the hunting in the hunting period, combined with the activity of the qualified operators who implement the control plan for the remainder of the year, they are encouraging and represent a model to be adopted in other areas. This is precisely what Coldiretti Veneto claims regarding the data disclosed by the Region, which confirm the net reduction in the presence of wild boars and, therefore, the reduction in the damage suffered by agricultural businesses and citizens.
They claim from Coldiretti Veneto: "The experimental regime could represent a solution to be applied elsewhere, obviously with the exception of protected areas, in which they must be implemented more decisively the control plans". Massimo Bressan, president of Coldiretti Veneto insists: "In our province there are vast areas of the plain, outside the Parco Colli area, where it would be appropriate to intensify the law enforcement activity, given the damage that wild animals cause to crops and the danger they represent to safety ». This is the case of the Vallette and Lande localities of Ospedaletto Euganeo and the countryside between the Brancaglia embankment and Sostegno a Este, just to name two examples, but the wild boars have gone even further south following the banks of the canals and have also been sighted in the Upper Padovana.
«We hope that the results obtained in the province of Verona allow us to act effectively also in our territories »continues Bressan. «The main objective must be the reduction of the wild boar population throughout our province and to achieve this constant and coordinated action is required over time. With the arrival of summer the wild boars move even more, at search for water and food, and obviously they target crops, from grapes to fruit, but they also destroy fields of corn, wheat, soybeans. We are in the middle of the growing season and the activity in the fields and the wild boars represent a daily threat as well as a real danger". And in the meantime, from the Parco Colli, the culling bulletin has confirmed a prolific June.
Good news, especially when combined with the "desert" of recent months: in full Covid-19 emergency, the containment of wild boars had been interrupted to such an extent that such low numbers of slaughter had never been reached in recent years of activity. In June, 247 wild boars were killed in the Euganean areas (141 males and 106 females), which bring the total of culls in 567 to 2020. We got back on track: last year in June 238 ungulates were trapped (but there were already 825 culled animals), in 2018 then 193 (for a total of 546 since the beginning of the year), the year before 284 (and there was a total of 770) and then 139 in June 2016, out of a total that reached 620 in that month. the “Record” of 1.679 annual culls in 2019 (The Morning of Padua).
