And hunting becomes a topic of political-political battle as well as a topic that mobilizes public opinion. The introduction in the Community law of an amendment that allows the hunting period to be postponed without limits, opening the way to the killing of protected migratory species, sees the opposition in the classroom not only of the Democratic Party and Idv but also of a compact group of deputies of the PDL: thirty parliamentarians who lined up yesterday against no-limits hunting, splitting the majority.
“We do not intend to legitimize with our vote the political surrender of some to a small sector lobby and of 750 hunters. Nor, much less, their will to shoot indiscriminately all year round and against any animal species ». Today, the majority will certainly lack the votes of some Finians (including Granata, Perina, Catanoso) as well as Berlusconians of animal rights, such as Gabriella Carlucci and Santo Versace and three former ministers (Stanca, Lunardi, La Loggia). Apparently, however, within the government camp, the front that is lining up against hunting throughout the year is larger: more than forty deputies, including ministers Brambilla and Prestigiacomo, would have met yesterday evening to attempt mediation.
Article 43 of the Community allows the Regions to postpone the hunting calendar, while the old version provided for an enlargement tout court, after hearing the opinion of Ispra, in which they merged pokie game the skills and staff of the National Wildlife Institute. But no one prevents the lengthening of the times from arriving until summer, allowing a sort of wild double win. Likewise, the Regions could overlook Ispra's non-binding opinion. The vote in Montecitorio today is a turning point in the hunting question. On the one hand, in fact, the passage to the Senate will not allow any changes.
On the other hand, there could be a political compromise between the majority and the opposition within hours of the vote that would lead to a sort of truce in what - however you put it - is a hot potato for the government. The oppositions are preparing, apparently in a once so compact manner, to propose three amendments: the elimination of article 43 of the Community due to the inadequacy of the chosen instrument in dealing with an issue such as the modification of the hunting regime; the cancellation of the part in which the postponement of the hunt is allowed; the definition of some limits, in particular the binding nature of the opinion of Ispra and the limit of 10 February for the extension of time.
For Angelo Bonelli, president of the Greens, "the establishment of the Community law which by extending the hunting calendars effectively liberalizes hunting is unacceptable for the defense of biodiversity", is a "real shot at animal rights". All the environmental associations, from WWF to Fare Verde passing through Legambiente and Lipu, have been working for two days in a garrison in front of Montecitorio.
