The reports of the presence of wildlife, mainly ungulates, in inhabited centers (images released by the media several times in these days), as well as, unfortunately, those inherent in major and widespread damage to crops. It was foreseeable that the lesser circulation of vehicles and people would have made these savages less suspicious and more prone to get closer to urban centers, but the phenomenon is even more persistent in rural areas, which results in a proliferation of damage and it is foreseeable that any failure to carry out the numerical control activities of the ungulates will increase these effects.
"About it," says the director of Confagricoltura Asti, Mariagrazia Baravalle "here and there in Italy, we were told that some Provincial and Regional Administrations believed that the control activities of wildlife were not configurable as a public service or public utility and consequently were blocking these activities but in our territory, with satisfaction, we found that the Province of Asti however, it has organized and implemented containment plans for wild boars ".
At home Confagricoltura were therefore stunned to read about the harsh attack that i local hunters, who denied their collaboration in the implementation of the plans, appealing to the risk of contagion, turned to those who made this decision. The Commissioner of Confagricoltura Asti, Ezio Veggia, adds to the dose: "The agricultural world has not stopped and, for the good of the country, has continued to produce to provide food and preserve the territory, naturally with the right precautions, while the hunting world did not act, perhaps speculatively appealing to the Covid emergency ".
The representative of the Asti organization waves, for example, the resolution of the Emilia Romagna region which verbatim reads: "The activity of control plans can be configured as a public service or public utility that is not suspended by the Prime Ministerial Decree of 10 April 2020". “What hurts me the most”, Veggia is keen to add, “is the fact that we are told not to worry as there are reimbursements! Apart from that they are often not sufficient or are late, what is not acceptable is precisely the underlying principle, as farmers work the land to produce and sell the fruits and reimbursements are acceptable only in the face of real and unpredictable natural disasters ". The agricultural organization of Asti, thus appreciating the initiative of the Province of Asti, however, asks for further containment interventions, even more incisive and capable of safeguarding the entire territory of Asti hit by this scourge.
